Cancelling things as a sign of respect is the worst idea i have ever heard. Why cancel football matches if some one famous dies or there is a big tragedy dies its completely pointless nothing is gained through this. Instead of cancelling horse racing on saturday for the queen mum it would be much more sensible to have you minutes silence and dedicate the event to their memory, what is the point in cancelling things, what is gained. For example instead of cancelling as a sign of respect the, racetracks should give a percentage of the gate reciepts and bookies could say give a percentage of their profits/proceeds for that day to charities dear to the person in question. The deceased in noway benefit from these cancellations which are in many respects unlinked to the death, it would be fair enough to cancel a formula 1 race if one of the racers died in warm up but in most situations the fact that something has happened doesn't mean that everything else must stop.

I also agree with A5hley and wookie, i lost my gran a few years ago when i was like 13-14, prince charles loses his at 50 something, she had a huge life, unlike my gran. So stop moaning. Its probably best she died anyway, she was almost crippled and seeing her made me nausious. No offence.

I certainly wouldn't.

Yes, it's a shame that she died, as with any death, but why cancel things just because it's someone famous?

I dislike the royal family - I think they are a waste of time and space, not to mention taxpayers money. They are relics of a bygone age, and I think they should be stripped of all privelges and made to work for their money like the rest of us.

What particularly sickens me is the sudden outpouring of 'grief', particularly those who never even knew or spoke to her. It's a joke! One journalist in particular said the other day "It's hard to imagine life without her."

I'm sorry, but it's not hard at all. My nan meant far more to me and did far more for me than any member of the royal family, but it wasn't plastered all over the press when she died. Sure, my life was disrupted, as were the lives of my family - but I didn't expect everyone else to put their lives on hold for my grief.

There are many millions in this country who in all honesty couldn't give a toss about what happened, other than it being a shame that she died, and I think it is very wrong that they cancel or otherwise disrupt events that those people have been looking forward to - possiby for a very long time.

Sorry if that sounds very selfish, but it is how I feel.

the other thing that is totally wrong about this is that it forces everyone to partake in the "grieving process" people like Sheepy who disliked the queen mum for instance are forced to partake in this cancellation even if they do not want to this removes peoples right to choose and this is wrong.

I hated that day when everything was cancelled for the queen mum. The news just kept repeating and repeating and repeating . . .

What's the point repeating it? We've seen it once, now lets get back to the descent stuff.

I agree with you ashley OK it's pretty sad the Queen Mother Dying but she was 101 get over it. I mean devoting the whole of the news program to her is a bit pointless when hundreds of people having dying in the middle east for years now

How do you know it wasn't?

if it was SR have set a much better example than those cancelling things this weekend. The point was that the cancellation by itself is pointless

i think that the england cricket team showed the right example with the passing of Ben Hollioake a tremendously talented young cricketer, they played on because it is what Ben would have wanted, and they played on with their grief many of whom were crying and mourning before the game. They went out and dedicated the match to his memory, as he would have wanted.
