As the honeymoon period of the consoles launch is now over, and the sales figures are starting to drop away as many people (myself included) say, “I’ll get an Xbox when there’s a price drop”, will we see a price reduction for Microsoft’s giant black box coming soon I wonder?
I know it’s not that long ago since the Xbox was launched, but the wait for the Gamecube is almost over, and the huge price difference between that and Xbox will have to force Microsoft’s hand in dropping the price of their console.
If they don’t, then come May 3rd, Nintendo’s new console will bury them, as the attraction of a great console at a very low price and better games at cheaper prices will be too strong.
Then throw the PS2 into the equation and Microsoft will not sell a £300 console for very long, despite what sales figures or strategies they have worked out.
Pretty soon though, Microsoft will be running scared of Nintendo and Sony as punters flock to the cheaper machines so a reduction in the price will come, maybe sooner rather than later?
But the question is when will the price drop?
Before may 3rd? After May 3rd?
Anyway, I think the price drop is an excellent move by MS. Out of the 3 consoles, X-Box is the best value for money. Its only £30 than a GC and you don't need a memory card. Once you add a memory card with a GC (which still has nowhere near the space of the X-Box hard drive), its only around £15 cheaper.
Looking at the games on the way, I'm still not all that impressed with the GC. A little note to people who have bought NGC magazine - had to laugh at the Universal Studios game. ;-))
Thats not a dig at the GC, I just thought it was funny how the mag slated the game. Sometimes reading bad reviews can be just as entertaining as reading the good reviews. ;-))

£115!! microsoft are going to be losing allot of money from this new deal, and there's still no guarantee that this price cut will shift as many units as MS wants.

Well, it's not like it's image is all that impresseive at the moment really. This will certainly make it better ... I'm more likely to get one now .... I want Abe's new game :o).
