"More than 150 times faster than the PS2, the PS3 will revolutionize not only the console market, but PC technology too."
Sony's chief technical officer Shinichi Okamoto recently told famed Japanese magazing, Famitsu, a few interesting tidbits regarding the upcoming PS3. Specifically, Okamoto-san hinted that Sony's next game console may include processor technology codenamed 'CELL.' Currently in the planning stages, the processor will be codeveloped by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM. Tentatively scheduled for completion by 2005, the processor will be capable of 1 Trillion FLOPS (floating-point operations per second), almost 200 times faster than the PS2. Variants of the 'CELL' technology are expected to revolutionize content delivery and networking systems in the PC market as well.

Who says The X-BoX will over power the Console Industry?
Anybody can come along and say that the next console will have anti alis bi linear z filtering and people think wow - must get that then !!
Lets all enjoy the wonderful consoles that we have at the mo and more importantly the great games that we can play on them.

You find many PS2 people still think that PS2 is more powerful than Xbox. Xbox is currently the powerfullest console. No one can say its not. PS2 and GC are mighty powerful but Xbox has the edge.
PS2 will still probably dominate the console industry because of its image and its big head start.
PS3 will be powerful. The next Nintendo console will be just as powerful as PS3. The new Microsoft console will be just as powerful as PS3.
Technology moves, Sony have new advanced hardware so do everyone else.
Anyway this topic was to show people them future aspirations and ideas of Sony which I found on a website thats all.
But it's pretty much a given that any console, or any other electronic device for that matter, has a shelf life in single figures of years before it's rendered obsolete by improved technology. It seemed to me that you were stating the obvious somewhat.
And I haven't a clue who said that the Xbox will overpower the console industry. I'd quite like to know, so that I too can ridicule them.
> and GC are going to be trounced by it. Yes, your probably right, in the same way
> that the Saturn was trounced by the PS2.
Where have I said anything like that in this topic? all im saying is that not one console will dominate the console industry as people have been saying, as soon as the x-box has been released peole have been claiming it to overtrun Sony and proclaim it to be the future, but gamer's should take a look to with the vast improvements in present and future consoles, yes the x-box maybe good but that doesn't mean something better won't be designed in the future hence the PS 3, GC etc
HELLO!!
You happily reeling off specs for a device that (as you state) is being planned. Not manufactured. Not developed. Not even designed.
And you mention that Xbox and GC are going to be trounced by it. Yes, your probably right, in the same way that the Saturn was trounced by the PS2.
*sigh*
With Rumours of the PS 3 and and introduction of the X-BoX Emulator (Topic done by Wookie in this forum)
dont you guys agree that this can only be a positive ways forward for Sony and at least us gamers can see that they are not letting Microsoft, Ninty or anyone else get ahead of them
I agree that the PS 2 has a lot of life in it and will do for years to come, but its good to know thats there will be a good future for Sony dont you think?
