Yeah but it is definitely "pickin' your feet" is it not?

I remember seeing some sort of making of where Hackman was talking about it.

Yes, I thought that way too until the booklet that came with the DVD informed me that Perkipsy was in fact Ploughskeepie :-)

One thing which does amuse me from the first film though is when they are chasing the guy at the beginning. Hackman is dressed up in a big santa outfit yet he still manages to run faster than Roy Scheider who is dressed in casual clothes. :-D

Yeah, it did end a bit suddenly I must admit.

But the French cop guy was likeable enough.

I think the reason that I don't like it is because I watched it immediately after the first one. In the first one Popeye is a legend and "Pickin' your Ploughskeepie" makes him an interrogation genius. Then suddenly he's reduced to the status of a bum in the second film. Like when he's trying to chat up the women and fails, and when no one understands him and just nods and smiles.

The fact that the first film was obviously better made me like Popeye, and so I found the second film a bit disappointing because it made me dislike him. I also thought it was a bit triggerhappy with the explosions and action, whereas the first one was understated. It didn't have the superb car-chase and the ending was, well I won't say anything because Grix hasn't watched it yet. Overall I prefer the first one and, though the second one isn't bad in itself, it and 90% of all films look bad compared to the original.

I like French Connection 2. Certainly not as good as the first one but I still really like it. And my favourite scene without a doubt is:

"Then I'm gonna work on your arms. Set 'em over a curb and use 'em as a trampoline. Yeah you'd like that huh? And what about your kneecaps. I'm gonna make oatmeal outta your f***in' kneecaps!"

Gene Hackman is great. For some reason though, my brother hates him. Well, he likes him in Enemy of the State but the first thing he saw him in was Crimson Tide and he hates that film. That basically means he dislikes him in everything. :-D

FC2 is disappointing overall. It's got great moments but it tries to imitate its predecessor and ends up aping it instead.

Worth watching for Gene Hackman's acting though, and it does provide a far more acurate portrayal of the real Popeye Doyle (a racist, xenopobic womaniser) than the original did.

Some people prefer it to the original but others, like me, don't.

Make sure you watch Mark Kermode's BBC documentary. It's brilliant simply because the entire production team and actors all hate each other really.

Dah. Must watch films, but no money, and too busy.

Arsey. I've still got French Connection 2 to watch mind. First one was superb.
