Easter is here. Well, in around an hour at time of writing anyway.

So, are you all excited?? Excited that the Easter Bunny is coming and giving you all lovely, chocolate eggs?? Excited about having a nice, big dinner with your family?? Yes, I would expect so. So am I, in fact.

Are you excited about going to Church tomorrow, to celebrate the real meaning of Easter?? Somehow, I don't think so. I expect a lot of ignorant families out there haven't even told their kids the real meaning.

You know what gets me?? That nearly the whole of our country will celebrate Easter tomorrow. And yet, less than half are Christians. I thought Easter was a Christian festival?? If you're a non-Christian and celebrating Easter, who not do the same for all the Jewish and Muslim festivals?? (Although with the Muslim one, you'd spent half your day nodding in front of a wall).

Ashley has just pointed out that while we're all mourning the Queen Mother's death, a significantly more important death happened around 2000 years ago, when Jesus was killed on the cross to wash away our sins. And yet, some don't even KNOW WHO JESUS IS!!

At least most of you on here know, and respect, the views of Christians. I don't know, maybe some of you will think about Jesus tomorrow. But for a lot of people, it will all be about chocolate.

It's all thanks to commercialisation (sp?) It's the same for Christmas. Most celebrate it by giving each-other presents, and eating a massive turkey. If I asked most 5-16 year olds what first came to their head when I said "Christmas", the answer would be presents. The same goes for "chocolate" and "Easter."

Bloody Argos and their stupid funning commercials. "Brighter Presents, Brighter Christmas." Shut it. It's people like you who make Christmas a time where you can get your greedy paws on as much money as possibly, by taking advantage of these festivals. It's people like you that have helped rid the words "Jesus" and "Christianity" from Easter and Christmas. Damn you.

I'd like to ask you a favour. Most newbies and regulars will ignore it, but those of you who know me well may not. Even if you're not a Christian, you can do this. Go to Church. Please. Don't go in the morning if you don't feel up to it, I'm sure there are evening services. Of course you don't have to do this, and I won't care that much if you don't. But if you want to celebrate Easter in the right way, then maybe you'll want to go. If not for that, then for me. Bring your families, if you go to the right Church then it can be a laugh.

Some of you will laugh this proposal off, and I don't mind. If you don't then fine, because I know it's tough. I know most of you won't go, because hey, you don't know me properly. I'm just a name on a chat forum. But maybe...maybe you'll feel like it. I'm hoping so.

If not though, then please just remember this post. Remember me. Remember the true meaning. I'm sorry to rant and rave at you all, about something you probably don't believe in. But it hurts. It hurts to see people ignoring the true meaning of this wonderful festival, where a man proved he was the Son Of God, by coming back from the dead. A miracle. Something that has effected your lives ever since you were born. After all, you can't just ignore the Bible, Church etc. Of course you cannot read the Bible if you don't want to, and you cannot go to Church if you don't want to, but you know they're there.

I'll stop now, I'm probably boring you. If you have taken the time to read this then I thank-you, and if you do choose to go to Church tomorrow then I thank-you profusely. Because it means you have managed to shove away the commercialism for just one hour, in favour of the true meaning. And if you just think about Jesus coming back to life tomorrow, then you have done the same.

Thanks for reading, Ant.

With all due respect, I'd just like to say something about the post, with no offence intended, from a non-religious point of view here, and I no intentions of sparking off an argument, just a few things sounded a little biased towards Christianity.

'Are you excited about going to Church tomorrow, to celebrate the real meaning of Easter?? Somehow, I don't think so. I expect a lot of ignorant families out there haven't even told their kids the real meaning.'

'Ashley has just pointed out that while we're all mourning the Queen Mother's death, a significantly more important death happened around 2000 years ago, when Jesus was killed on the cross to wash away our sins. And yet, some don't even KNOW WHO JESUS IS!!'

'But if you want to celebrate Easter in the right way, then maybe you'll want to go. If not for that, then for me. Bring your families, if you go to the right Church then it can be a laugh.'

How do we know that there is a real meaning to Easter, but some old geezer just sat in a rocking chair and decided that everyone should have a day where they could be a total glutton and eat all the chocolate they want. Anyway, if parents are to teach their children about the 'real meaning' of easter, then shouldn't they also educate them about Muslim's and all the other religious also? I don't believe in Christianity, but I still give it the upmost respect, as I would any other religion, so please don't think that I'm taking a dump on you or your religion, because I'm not like that.

Anyway, this was an interesting topic to read and have a great easter mate!

The rabbit is the symbol of a god celebrated at the start of spring in the pagen calender, festivals were held to herald in the new year (hence also the eggs as a symbol of new life)

As for Christian festivals hi-jacking the Pagan ones, they already celebrated Christmas and Easter, but at different times, and at one point the pagan and Christian festivals were both held, but the arrival of a new Queen and a renewed interest from Spain and the Roman countries meant that Christian festivals were moved to co-incide and eventually take over the pagan ones, denouncing the pagans as devil worshippers. Something that Christians do not look back on with any love, I might add.

But then again, it gave us a good Monty Python sketch....

We have a newspaper clipping up in my school, and it explains how many children do not know what vegetables are. The headline sums it up reall, " And this boys and girls is a brocolli" How do you not know what a brocolli is?

Anyway, I think it is a shame that some kids don't know what easter and christmas holidays and celebrations are for. Don't they teach this stuff in primary school?

More people will do something to celebrate Halloween than will do something to celebrate Christmas.

Ant, I apologise on behalf of the idiots in this thread. Just because they can't appriciate someone elses views now doesn't mean they'll do the same when they grow up.

Christmas means nothing to me, Easter means nothing to me. If it was up to me, I wouldn't do anything for Christmas because I think it's disrespectful to Christians - stealing thier celebration and using it as an excuse to get nice presents.

Ditto with Easter.

Just out of interest, where did the bloody easter bunny come from? Is it just slightly more commercialism or did Jesus have a big eared mascot

No, not YOU Peter, the bunny (distant sobs)

Still, im very barely religious, except church at Christmas, and I guess I won't be going to church today. But maybe kiddywinkles should know why they get two weeks of school and some chocolate eggs.

Oh, and excuse the joke.

Listen to this, its from a daily newspaper. This is what some kids thought what Easter was about...

"Easter is when you get eggs from Jesus because he was a very kind man"

"We have chocolate eggs to celebrate Easter because the tomb was empty and most eggs are hollow, except for the ones with chocolate buttons"

"We celebrate Easter with hot cross buns because Hitler eat a lot of bread"

"We have easter eggs at Easter because Jesus went into the desert and gave something up. It might have been chocolate"

and my personal favourite...

"We're off school at the moment because it is Jesus' birthday"

Now I'm not Christian, hey, I'm not even religious. But I do have respect and understand the message and the meaning of Easter, and I too am ever so slightly horrified at the commercialisation. Whilst reading the above quotes may raise a laugh, it soon subsides into disgust. I mean what sort of education are children getting - they probably know every detail of Robbie Williams life or where David Beckham goes shopping but not this. I sympathise with your feelings Ant, I really do.
