Shame we live in a NON cabled area, ADSL is my only option for broadband. Getting my Dad to ring up BT on Friday to see what they say about my ADSL disconnecting when people phone up. It happened today when someone phoned, the ADSL actually lost Sync with the BT exchange. Apart from this problem ADSL has been fine for me, so hopefully I can sort this problem out and then it will be perfect.

Pipex has had severe problems with its service lately, which is entirely their own fault, due to not being able to cope with demand, and "software upgrades". There was an article on this on the bbc new website, about how poor pipex's service has been

Because it's cack - cable is far superior! :-)

Seriously though...

A friend of mine has ADSL from BT, and they sound like a right bunch of muppets all round.

His ADSL stopped working a couple of weeks ago, and he spent a total three days (not continuously, obviously!) on the phone to support, trying to get it working again.

What had actually happened was that his bill was charged to a debit card, but the card had expired and he'd received a new one with a different date - hence charges were being rejected. But BT didn't bother to contact him to ask for new details - they just cut him off with no warning whatsoever.

And the support engineer stumbled across this purely by accident!

Anyway, he was given a number to phone, and he kept getting no answer. Eventually he got through and was told that he'd been given the wrong number, and they gave him another number. He rung the new number only to get a recorded message saying that they were closed until the following Monday morning!

In total he was without his ADSL connection for 7 days - all because BT didn't bother contacting him to tell him they couldn't get payment for the service!

Idiots!

Some pc motherboards have problems with powering the usb modem. I have a abit KT7 and I use an externally powered usb hub and it now works a treat. Good luck.

Could be the modem. As the Frog modem(the green one usually bought when getting Pipex ADSL) and the Fujitsu(free one supplied by Pipex in there offer) modems can have problems staying connected to the internet. If they disconnect every 5 mins or so then its the modem.

When you get disconnected does the link light on the modem start to flash? If so then its a BT fault and not Pipex. If you get disconnected and your modem link light stays on then its Pipex.

Are you sure it doesnt disconnect due to the phone? Mine sometimes disconnects if we use the phone, but most of the time its fine. Maybe this is your problem.
