I was just thinking today that Wesley Snipes, although well known, has never been in anything really mainstream. If you know what I mean.

And he shoud be!

He is funny. He looks cool. He is a great action man.

But still he ends up in much lower profile action movies. Dropzone anyone? Mind you, that wasn't bad. In fact, it was pretty damn good for terrestrial TV nowadays. But films like 'Murder at 1600' and 'Art of War' are films that should star someone a lot less cool than Wesley Snipes. He should definitely be up there near the top of the hollywood action list. Let's face it, he was born to be an action film star.

Take a look at Blade (which sequel was the thing that really spawned this post). In that he is, for lack of a better word, the daddy! The shades, the sword, the voice, the clothes. Everything! That film would have boosted anyone elses career astronomically and they'd be pretty hot property. Perhaps Snipes is destined never to make it right to the top. And since he hasn't made it already, he isn't likely to. Unless of course Blade 2 seriously does something for him (but he must be getting on a bit now).

And although he is best in an action role, he doesn't HAVE to be in on the action. He was good in The Fan for example(as was De Niro) and that wasn't an action film. He still rules! He just rules in everything.

Okay, so he is fairly big. But he isn't THAT big. Who else would have been better as Blade? There is nobody! He is the man! He is one of the coolest guys in action cinema.

I think he should be a lot bigger than he is. Blade should have put him over the top without a doubt. It wouldn't have had the same style without him. But even in worse films (Money Train for example) he still manages to make it seem like a much bigger movie than it is.

In one line: He should be bigger.

And to finish off: "Ooh, so exciting." (If you've seen Blade 2 or the TVspot you'll understand. If you haven't seen either then just wait till you do.)

What do you think? He should be, right?

He's an idiot. This does not mean I think Blade sucks, because it rules, but Snipes is nothing special.

Mr T should play Blade.

"I pity the fool who tries to drink my blood, sucka" before launching them somewhere. Maybe a vampire could turn up and make him mad by forcing him to fly.

Because he ain't flying. Hannibal.

(Nu-metal rappers? Explain.)

Err... people who shout really fast.

(Nu-metal vocalists, then.)

Yeah, but it seemed appropriate to call them rappers. I bet they say they're rappers.

(I bet they do.)

Roger Moore uncovers a fiendish conspiracy, involving Sting taking over the world, parliment only being there to fill in gaps on sunday tv, and dolphins selling humans to aliens in Sotherbys. Roger Moore dresses up in a safari outfit, gets together all the members of cult tv programs from the 70's and 80's, and battles Sting's army of... err... nu-metal rappers. It ends with Sting being sold to aliens by dolphins, in an exciting plot twist, which also allows room for a sequel.

Perhaps.

And yeah, Cat is in Blade 2.

Drop Zone, what a rubbish idea for a movie. A movie that takes place in parachute jumps, lots of them. How can you possibly create a film that revolves around parachute jumps? It's like that new BBC series, Rockface. How many accidents can you have on the side of a rock? Answer - about one, falling off the side. Gimme original film ideas, dammit.

To be honest I thought Blade was a pretty medicore comic book movie...

COuld someone confirm this for me...

I'm about 90% sure Cat from Red Dwarf is in Blade 2. He's the bloke who fights Blade with that bird in Blade's place near the start. My mate spotted it as soon as he took his mask off...I'm just not 100% sure.

Any Snipes recommendations?

It's not action, but 'The Fan' is good. And you can get it on DVD for 8 quid. No extras but good film.

Plus, if you don't think Snipes is a good actor, then you've still got Bob De Niro and Benicio Del Toro in it. :-D

Oh, and the obvious - Blade 2. Not seen it myself but can't wait to. Should go see it sometime next week. The TVspot alone though is great. Purely because of Snipes's "Ooh, so exciting" remark as he puts on his shades. :-D
