i havent played many tie ins, but here goes.

Harry potter for GB.

an okay rpg, with lots of good puzzles and dificult tasks. a bit frustraiting at times, but when you figure it out youl kick yourself. the battle screen could be better, and items in diagon ally are impossible to buy there so expencive. 8/10

HP for PS1

good game. this is a genuine good game.not too dificult, but every thinng is vey satisfying. crappy graphics. 9/10

simpsons wrestling for ps1

i have heard nothing but DIE! DIE! and KILL! about this game and have not played it.(no rating because i cant go on hype alone.)

simpsons RR

i have played, and is good in my opinion. the only bad thing is the tom and jerry phisics. please dont hate me for liking this game, every one seems to hate it 9/10

these are the only ones i can think of right now, what about you guys.

The fact that seems to pass by most people is that if the game is based on a film or television show, then the developers have to pay for a license to create a game for it, hence they're not spending the money on actually developing the game. However, they are some examples which have defied this 'law'. For instance, Goldeyene on the Nintendo 64 - a superb game, even though they had to pay for licencing.

And that's where babies come fr...erm...I mean, and that's why the most original games are the best.

Ah well, even so this other guy must be very disappointed....unless he got a large sum of money for allowing Konami to makes games on the license.

Even though Michael Crichton didn't write the story, I reckon he'd be severely disappointed with the lack of quality in a game based on his stories.

Actually Edgy....Jurassic Park III wasn't directed by Speilberg. Some guy named Joe Johnston directed it.

But yeah, the quality of a game really does depend on whether or not the developers can be bothered to put a decent amount of effort into the game.

Just like Mark said, developers need to put the effort in to make a film or tv license any good as a game. As do film directors need to put in the effort to make a movie based on a game any good.

As Mark pointed out, though only playing it once, Jurassic Park III: The DNA Factor is absolutely rubbish, and is the reason why I am the only customer to have actually reviewed it here on Special Reserve! Please note, that even though I pointed out that Mark has only played it once, that's how many times you actually need to play the game to realise how bad it is! Believe me, you can't get a game worse than this from a film! Senior Spielbergo would be so ashamed to know that his third dinosaur epic movie has been dishonoured on the Game Boy Advance with this pitiful excuse for a game!

Anyway, despite Konami's poor attempts at film-game conversions, Rareware have done brilliantly with Goldeneye 007 on the N64. The attention to detail in the N64 game is brilliant, with as many parts of the film included as possible, plus a whole load of extras like Multiplayer modes, and even secret levels based upon other films under the James Bond theme.

Electronic Arts didn't do too badly with The World Is Not Enough on the N64, though not being what many gamers were expecting from a Bond title on the N64, it was a decent game based upon the storyline. Though it didn't stick to the films story as much as it should have, relying on levels that were nothing like the movie to make the game worth playing.

Super Star Wars on the SNES was a decent game too. It was a platform adventure which stayed really close to the movie, or as close as a SNES game can get. Lucasarts did well with that game.

Just as Mark said, it all depends on the efforts of the developers.

Well, that's an interesting question, Boss Pac-Man. I have played quite a few games based on movies and they've been of mixed quality. And if there is more than one game based on the same movie(s), they can also tend to be of mixed quality.

For example, the three Jurassic Park games on the SEGA Mega Drive were all absolutely fantastic, yet Jurassic Park III: The DNA Factor on the GBA was absolutely awful to say the least.

Simpsons Wrestling and Simpsons Road Rage.....both quite poor quality games, in my opinion. Wrestling was just a case of bash buttons until one of you falls over, and Road Rage stole every one of its' ideas from Crazy Taxi, yet executed them poorly and added no new ideas of its own.

I think that whether or not a game based on a movie or TV show is good depends on whether or not the games developers have been bothered to put in the effort.
