Imagine this...

Long lines of people carrying big, square boxes. All queuing up, just to reach a small table occupied by a solitary old man.

“We are here today, outside what is often described as ‘The London Eye’. You can easily see how crude and simply built this was, probably finished in matter of days. Now, of course, it is deemed extremely unsafe due to the basic and dangerous mechanisms. We all know that 21st century life was a primitive and simple one, but today we are celebrating the small developments that changed the way people back then lived, the so called ‘Games Consoles’.”

He turns to his right where a small boy is pulling three strange boxes out of a plastic bag.

‘Wow! A full set of Playstation consoles. Never in my life was I expecting to see this. Here we have the original Playstation, grey, square, very cumbersome and a measly 32bit. This was later developed into the PSone, a smaller and more compact version with the new feature of attaching a small screen to the back, very rare indeed! And now we have the Playstation 2, a bigger and slightly more powerful console, this was though ‘cutting edge’ at the time but if you’ve ever seen some of the games you’ll definitely not agree.

“We’ll start with the Playstation. Now I’ll just see, erm. Yes, the original opening mechanism still works! This was first manufactured in 1995, very popular, but easily damaged, I’m surprised you kept it in such good condition. I’d say about 3 million for this”

“Oh. I was expecting a bit more”

‘Never worry! This PSone is worth about double that. You see, these were much less popular as the Playstation 2 came out only a little later than this and was much more popular.
For the Playstation 2 I'd say about 1 million at auction, being much more popular and available at the time. Still, pretty good condition, I’d hang on to it, it’ll go up slowly in price.”

“Thanks very much, bye!”

Shhhhhhhiiii Cluuurrrrrk Boingggg Beep Beep beep Beep beep beep beep beep

2 small yellow fork-lift trucks reverse toward the table, the first carrying an X-box, the second – it’s controller.

“Ha....ha......erm, yes. Hello there, I see you have an X-Box. Have you looked at the top? No? Good, good - for the love of God do not look at the top.”

He points timidly at the sick green things atop the console,

“This green globe thingy here was a new-fangled brain-washing devise cunningly installed into every X-Box. The late Mr. Gates designed this along with the equally effective ‘Window XP’ devise. They both turned the viewer into Microsoft Maniacs and made them buy every single Microsoft product available - a very dangerous thing.
I think it would be best if we.....”

The small man pulls some sort of electrical gun from below the table and in a few second of smoke and noise a large crater appears in the ground.

A small, ancient lady hobbles up to the table, producing a Gameboy Advance and several games.

“Ah-ha! Just what I’ve been waiting for, a Gameboy Advance. Now the Gameboy was the most popular hand-held console during the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. There were actually a lot of incarnations of this console, this about the middle one. There was the Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance Pocket, Gameboy Super-advance, Gameboy Ultimate and Gameboy Even More Ultimate Than The Last One.
Now I see you’ve brought along some games as well, and if we can.... Yes, they still work. But, ooh, yuck, how crude. Just look at the primitive and ugly graphics we’ve got here. How could they think this was anywhere near good! Yuk. Ugh. Bbbllllllaacccckkkk!!!”

At this point the lone old man collapsed.
Y’see antiques are dangerous.

But could this actually happen? Consoles are great.
The antiques of the future?

Cheers,

FFF

You don't understand my predicament.

I've wrote countless quality pieces of writing only to watch them sink to the bottom like lead pieces of lead.

Even if only 8 people read it, it's still something.

Sorry..i'll shut up now.

Excellent!

I too think that current consoles will be the antiques of the future. Saying that, I would only pay pennies for the consoles of yesteryear!
