Basically, this topic is about misapps with consoles, so I hope you enjoy reading/scrolling through it!

Here we go:

Gaming Enemy No.1 - Crashes
------------------------------------

Probably THE worst case scenario when innocently enjoying a game. In most cases people get annoyed by this, they're enjoying a game too much that they forget to save. Either that or you have no memory card, or, you have to reach a certain stage in the game to be allowed a save. Crashes, or "screen freeze" often occurs when you're glaring directly into your screen full of excitement and being totally sucked into the game. All of a sudden, the normal flowing image stops flowing, and starts a jurky back and forwards motion in quick succession, staying in the same position at all times.

What do you do in this situation? Do you:

A) Try all the buttons to see if they're still functional?

B) Bash your console in a calm manner, in an attempt to get the game going again?

C) Take the disc/cartridge out, blow/wipe it and stick it back in the console? (HOPE NOT!!!)

or
D) Bash it with a stick (preferably a baseball bat)? (HOPE NOT!!!)

Normally, I would start with A, then move on to plan B and sometimes if I'm really desperate I would go to C, but never D(money's too precious)!!!

The sensible person, more calmer person, would restart their console, resisting the temptation of bashing anything that comes closest to them.

I hate crashes so much, it spoils the whole flow of the game, and in most situations you just can't be bothered to replay most of that game again - well - not that same day anyway! It just ticks you right off!!!

No.2 - Bad stomache!
---------------------------

Not as important as the first, but it's still quite relevant - the noise consoles make. One FAQ(I think!) is "Why do so many consoles make funny noises?" The answer is simple; it's either because it's faulty or the disc is dirty. One memorable moment that brought this topic on was my first attempt of playing my PS2.

I was totally chuffed when it finally came, after the huge wait and hype it had. I ripped open the blue packaging, got my PS2 out and set it up straight away - in a hurry! I had previously bought three games to play on it, which were Smuggler's Run, ISS and DOA2. I had already played DOA2 at my mates who already got his PS2 due to an earlier pre-order than mine, so I thought I'd have a go on ISS, loving footy an all.

So, not knowing much about the "revolutionary" console, I opened the disc tray with caution and inserted the ISS disc. I left the console to run itself when suddenly I started to hear a churning noise, almost like a bad stomache! I wanted nothing to be wrong with my new console, so I started telling myself that it was supposed to be like this. After sitting, staring at the same image for about 10 minutes I knew something was up, so still being determined to have a "fine" PS2 I tried putting Smugglers Run in instead. But the same noise began again and the game didn't start either! Now I was really ******!

It's not only in this case that this happens though, it's mainly during a game. All the loading and data processing it does forces it to make several scratching noises, which sometimes leaves you wondering if it's about to crash. One day...just one day...this will never happen!!

Last, but definitely not least...Gaming Enemy No.3 - What's going on?! Respond! ---------------------------------------------------

Yes, when the flaming console just ignores you, but in a very cunning way. If the game has acted pretty weird in the past by not loading up or by crashing, we tend to be very cautious about it, and the game seems to stand out from the rest. This is when you get very annoyed!

The game starts up perfectly and smoothly...everything's going well. It starts up showing the menu and you take a sigh of relief, everything seems to be in order like when you first played it. Then you press the directional button to move up and down the menu, but nothing happens. You press all the action buttons, but still nothing happens. You restart the game and go through the normal procedure once more, but it still doesn't respond. In this case, we would give up straight away and leave the game to gather dust for a while, then come back to it later, in another attempt to get it working again!

That's it!! That's all of console nightmares that I can remember happening to ME anyway. But one thing that really bugs me is that with all this talk about 'next-gen consoles', why do all these things still happen? Why do they still crash, make funny annoying noises and occasionally not work at all?

It just goes to show that consoles haven't revolutionised as much as people say they have, but one day there'll never have to be topics on this matter again!!!
