I know you guys have been slagging off each of the consoles.
But you don't really know what console will be the next step up.
All the bias comments and name calling has been really annoying.
But come on i really think the GameCube is the console to watch ourt out for, and maybe the X-Box. I'm being bias or anything but i can't see Sony doing anything spectacular. Although it's got all the stuff a person would like to have in a machine, it has nothing much the GC and X-Box has. GC is the only games only made console so it will be the games console to own. X-Box is destined to be great because of their huge sums of money they can spend to make it a super console. All the consoles have internet access and i think taht's right because internet gaming is the future! This may not be everyone's opinion but this is what i say about it.

Yep.

And even then the GC still can't play movies as standard, although I heard they were working on a port for 8-track cassettes...

hmmm... I doubt it... Consoles sell for a loss anyway! Money is made on software that must be licenced by the console maker.

Anyway, say u buy a PC, with a DVD. Are u paying for the development of the optional DVD R that u ain';t got... no! It's paid for by the people who actually get the DVD R

Bu the point is that money has been spent in order to develop the capacity for the machine to be able to play DVD's, even if this does require some form of add-on, hence the cost of the console is going to be boosted, so effectively you are paying for it, yes?

Think u missed the point. Both the GC and Xbox HAVE DVD drive things, because the games are stored on DVD (but Nintendo's DVD's are slightly smaller mind... so the drive will actually cost more)...

Anyway, both consoles can be upgraded as it were. The Xbox has an add on pack that lets u play DVD MOVIES, and the GC has another version made by Panasonic that plays DVD MOVIES.

This means that u have the choice of whether to get the DVD MOVIE player or not... which is good, since I don;t wanna spend extra money on a box I'll only use for games.

I'm sure Sniper had good points both with the original post and with his most recent one.

The DVD option is just a frill. Who needs it if you just want to play games and you've already got a DVD player anyway?

I just wanna play games...

Well, obviously you DO have to buy the DVD player with the X-Box, you just have to buy an extra so you can actually USE the thing.

Actually, the GC will be released with a DVD player at an extra cost in Japan. Like the GC, the Xbox will ONLY play games as standard, with an upgrade needed to play DVDs... which is good, coz u don't HAVE to buy the DVD player. The upgrade will come with a remote, and quality playback (ie, better than the PS2!)
