I went to write a review a few days ago and was typing away happily... until it said that I had run out of characters. After much head-scratching, I noticed that the character limit for reviews has dropped from 4000 to 3000.

3000?! Geez! Why did this happen? I'm assuming it's to do with the increased size of the website or something technical like that, but 4000 characters gave me the freedom to write reviews which - in my opinion - were good, as I could cover everything I wanted to. Now I find myself too restricted and unable to cover every aspect of the game.

AS I've said before you can't really get much information about a game from 3,000 characters (NOT words) if you look at game reviews in magazines they normally cover 1 maybe 2 pages (I know a lot of the space is taken up by pics)

I think you should let the writer's/readers decide on the length of the reviews they write/read. If you want to write a huge review you should be allowed to. Some people are better are writing long reviews than short ones and feel they get more across to the reader about the game itself. There isn't a minimum on how many characters there has to be so people aren't forced to write big reviews if they don't want to or if they unable to.

Also the reader can decide weather to read the short reviews or the long reviews. If they want to read a long one they can and if they want to read a short one they can. Personally I like really long reviews as I want as much information about a game as I can get. Reviews (especially by game players themselves) really help me decide if I should buy a game or not.

Most GAD winning reviews are quite long (obviously, there are exceptions) and people read them because they can see by the "GameADay Winner" text and yellow background that they must be good. Trouble is, obviously not every product has a GAD winning review in it, and you have to search loads of pages to find them on some products

So, although I like to rant a lot (you can tell just from this post) I do think that smaller reviews are probably for the better. I know I rarely read the long reviews, even though I post huge ones myself

Reviews should be short, concise and informative - you do not need even 3,000 words to write a good review. If you need more, you need to cut it down. These are supposed to be game reviews, not huge essays, if they're too long and look unappealing, people won't read them and that's not what we want from you.

I remember the good old days when the limit was something like 10,000 but 3,000 characters is too short
