An interview with ex-X-box PR employee Mark Hurn explained a problem with the X-box.

He claimed that Microsoft do indeed desire to enter the market, Sony's PS2 system uses internet and Linux, which brought microsoft's attention to the market. Microsoft wanted a larger foot hold in the gaming market and also wished to cancel out the negative effect of the PS2 on the PC industry with a similar system. Yet despite doing well in America and relativly well in Europe failure to get one game in the top 50 in Japan confirmed that Microsoft will not be able to beat Sony. Whilst Microsoft analysts predict that eventually in the western world Microsoft might overtake Sony in the sales department they at this current stage will never break the Japanese market. As Sony gains the majority of its sales from Japan this is very worrying for Microsoft who won't be able to make a profit probably ever, although that isn't too important at the moment not being able to make an impact in the gaming capital means that Microsoft will only have a minor impact on the industry as a whole.

He also went on to comment about the way they are surviving in Europe, he stated that sales of the Microsoft X-box keep falling drastically short so another advertisement plan or a price cut is constantly launched so they can keep the sales up at the right standard. They are also content on proving a point against Nintendo, many employee's comment to reporters how they are 'up besides Nintendo'. In fact they are behind Nintendo and Nintendo have a tiny impact on Microsoft's sales and vice versa so why Microsoft seem content on harking on about increased sales to near Nintendo is beyond him. He is also found the fact that analysts predict Nintendo and Sony being the only companies making a profit this christmas further worrying for Microsoft.

Introducing another console does not "cancel out the negative effect of the PS2 on the PC industry", it adds to it. The fact that MS get the profit does not help "the PC industry" - it only helps Microsoft.

And less of the asswipe attitude, please.

What advertising plans are those? I havn't seen any.

Meh more xbox sales "news". I expect to read about this again on Digitiser with their "comments".

If it does end up like the Dreamcast then so be it, the Dreamcast is the best console to date in terms of quality games and the Xbox is heading in the same direction with games. I think this is total non sense from someone who doesn't care for the Xbox at all and who runs in everytime he wants to deliver bad news. With Sega and Rare (who are owned by Microsoft) paying special care to the Xbox, Xbox Live, amazing release list and anything else Microsoft plan to spring upon us. I am not denying they haven'r said this but what do you have to say about the American market?

Even with Mario Sunshine released in the month of September and a quite month for the Xbox, the Xbox still managed to out sell the GameCube and continue its great success. The American market is just as big as the Japanese yet I don't go into the Nintendo forum saying "GameCube fails in America" because it is untrue, its just not selling as well. Why are you so bothered about sales all the time? I love playing my games and the quality of them will keep me playing for longer. Who gets fun out of looking at a bunch of numbers? (unless they are the winning lottery ones ;)

I find it strangely bissare that people search the internet looking for such things.

This makes absolutely no sense to me.

They want to negate the effect of PS2 on the PC industry, so they release a similar system?

Surely that doubles the effect?

At work yesterday, six Gamecubes were sold, three PS2's and one XBox.

I know its only one shop in the country and doesn't count for the overall figure at all much, however it does show something...

Christmas sales will be interesting.

I think people who have wanted the XBox would have brought it by now, which is why sales may begin to dimmer.
