You reckon you lot could start selling replacement parts for the Playstation? The hunt for a new laser unit is difficult to say the least, and yet it's a frequent failing piece of the original PSX model, would be so much easier if you could just click through a few pages on SR and have just ordered a new laser / casing / buttons etc.

If I can't get through to these playstation repair bods by the end of the day, I think I'm going to navigate to call forwarding and queues of the dreaded Sony company number, and see if they have any about (no doubt for extortionate prices).

You'll have to be careful to switch the Playstation off at the mains before tampering with the laser.

You could ask Mummy or Daddy to show you where the mains socket is and explain how to unplug it. Of course they might decline, or try to show you the wrong plug, if they realise that you could kill yourself attempting this.

You may not require a new laser. Have you tried small electronic companies to see if they can fix it?
Probably just worn out the plastic rails, so they need replaced. Anyone who could fix cd players etc should be able to help or tell you whats up.
Remember that it could be cheaper just to get a new PSone than paying for new parts and repairs.

New laser unit £30, new Playstation £50. ;)

Actually that wouldn't be enough. You would also have to earth yourself, and depress thepower button for roughly three seconds after the power had been disconnected, as until you do so a dangerous amount of charge remains in the capacitors. ;)

As for the mummy and daddy comment, nice try, but given I modified the console myself and have since been adjusting the laser bias to correct misalignment errors - I think I can pretty much handle it. ;)

In short: You just got owned. :P
