Don't care about your schools librarian. Virtual PC runs bloody excellent on my G4.

Luke, I haven't read that site, but from memory it requires you to compile a UNIX OS and run X off it. It's not the same as running GNOME from OSX.

OSX has a UNIX base, and the similarities end there. It doesn't even have BASH as the default prompt, and I don't think you could run GNOME on MacOSX is you wanted to.
Again: OSx has very, very little to do with Linux at all.
