Number 1) Kiddy Gamer – Although people regard these gamers as just a piece of rubbish and aren't worthy of the name gamer we have to remember that these little people are still at an early stage of development. After all we all have to start out somewhere. Instead of disregarding these gamers we should be encouraging them on how to game, not to go with the flow and to stand out. Who knows what kind of system they'll own but if given the right incentives they will end up owning a console one day.
2)Casual gamer - This type of gamer may own either a PC, or a console, maybe even both. The casual gamer does not care how a game works, or how many polygons the CPU of their machine can throw at the screen, they just care about having a good time. They may have a wide selection of games, but they may not be good ones. These guys don’t buy mags like Edge, they probably buy a format specific mag. All casual gamers can evolve into other types of gamer.
3)New Gamer/Inexperienced Gamer - Most of these people were born around early - mid 90's and they're first system would probably have been the Playstation because of its lower price compared to the N64. Now owns a PS2 and thinks it is superior to all consoles. When asked what is better about it they quote games such as GTA3, GT3, and Medal Of Honour. Still developing, but in the wrong path.
4)Older Gamer/Experienced Gamer - Has been around games since the NES, if not earlier. Knows exactly how to judge a game properly and pick theright system. Hve now evolved slightly into a zealot to they're system. Probably owns Sega Dreamcast or Gamecube due to previous encounters with the Master System, Mega Drive, NES and SNES although in some cases own PS2's.
5) PC Gamer – Probably has a job or rich parents as they can afford a PC. Has a good PC, but has to keep upgrading to the newest graphics / memory / processor, so is usually broke. Takes every opportunity to tell the world how inferior consoles are, yet is jealous that they don’t need the Operating System reinstalled every six months, and wishes that PCs would drop in price. If started on a PC (probably now owns a brick... ahem... i mean X-Box while bragging how the X-Box rulz all)
6) Zealot – Can mostly be divided into Sony / Sega / Nintendo / PC sub-types, but there are many variations such as First Person Shooters, RPG, Racing, Platformer etc. zealots. These gamers do not care about hardware, because they just want to play their favourite games, no matter what platform. Consequently, they support the old adage "software before hardware".
7) Fully Evolved Gamer - hmmm, doesn't sound right.
A gamer whose been able to own several systems due to family contacts and rich parents
e.g. me owning
A: Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, NES, SNES, Playstation, Gamecube, PC and Gameboy Advance
and having access to:
A: PS2, Mega Drive, Gameboy and Master System
These gamers know the Specs of their system, most games coming out for most systems around. Spends 90% of their free time gaming (the other 10% is sleeping and eating). Often referred to as a hardcore gamer. Have rubbish social lifes but don't care coz they've got games. More to say about them but can't remember
I've only scratched the surface of the diffenent types of gamer, just because there are so many of them I can't put it in but these are the main types of gamers around in this industry which is just so big.
Thanx for reading... if you could be bothered
