CHAPTER TWO
Shaneo entered the market of the town. It was a majestic sight with jolly music and people dancing and singing.
'They all seem so happy and joyful, I like it here.' Shaneo said to himself. He started to dance and was enjoying himself when all of a sudden someone looked a bit strangely at him. The person spoke to a guard and the guard started to chase him.
Shaneo went off like a shot and the guard called for soldiers because Shaneo was so fast.
'Now...I...don't...seem...to...like...it...here!!!!' Shaneo spoke between breaths.
He started to run out of energy and looked behind him to see if they were gone. Convinced they had ceased their pursuit of him, he came to a full stop. Looking around, all Shaneo could see was a dark and dismal alley, the colours were less bright and flowing and more dark and wet.
'Yuk,' Shaneo whispered, 'but at least it's better then being chased around the open, I’m safe here.'
'No, I don't think so young man,' a hand rested on Shaneo's shoulder, 'now come with me, we need to sort out your punishment for returning.'

The soldier led Shaneo to the guard and then the guard led him to a platform.
'You....you're going to hang me!' Shaneo screamed as the guard put a noose around his neck. The noose was rough and itchy, it rubbed his skin and scratched it. The soldier in the crowd spoke to his friend beside him, his friend nodded and ran to the platform and whispered something in the guard’s ear.
'Oh my god! I'll have to deal with this.' He looked at a soldier and beckoned him to the platform 'Allardini, watch this boy whilst I sort out the problems elsewhere.'
The soldier smiled at Shaneo and replied to the guard in a voice with a faint French accent in it 'Yes sir, I will sir.'

The guard left with the rest of the crowd and Shaneo looked at Allardini with a bit of fear. Then silently he looked at Allardini and said 'Are you going to hurt me?'
Allardini laughed and said 'Of course not, why do you think I told such a lie to the guard? I'm going to help you get out'. He eased the noose from around his neck and Shaneo felt free once again and rubbed his neck with relief. 'Come on, I need to get out of this place too, I never wanted to train as a soldier here. I wanted to stay in Gay Pari.' Shaneo sniggered, 'Oh don't be so childish, now, where do you need to go?'
Shaneo looked up at Allardini in his gleaming silver armour and admired the patterns in it,
'Well, where do you need to go?' asked Allardini again.
'Oh..um..I need to see princess Mystique.' Shaneo was suddenly brought back to earth again. 'Nice armour by the way.'
'Oh that, I hate it, all too heavy. Now come on, I know a way to the castle.'
'Oh, great.' Shaneo murmured as Allardini led him back to the dark alley, he opened a door and entered it, Shaneo followed.

'This is the servants entrance to the castle, if we can get to the princess, we'll need to get rid of any armour and hide any weapon what-so-ever.' Allardini said as he took his armour off to reveal some servant-like clothing.
'Oh, okay. I don't have any weapons.' Shaneo looked around the dark, smelly walkway.
Allardini walked down the path and Shaneo followed still looking around. Rats were everywhere and Bats were squeaking. They came to a rotten door and gently Shaneo pushed it open. A warm, sweet smell met the boy’s noses. A fat lady bounded up to Shaneo and giggled then said,
'Oh there you are, now take this food up to the princess on the third floor. Oh stop looking round, you look like a rabbit on speed.' She thrusted a plate of hot food into his hands, Shaneo looked down at it and sniffed it, pulled a face and then noticed that Allardini had gone.

'Hey, you were meant to wait for me, I'm the reason you're here.' Shaneo hissed at him,
'I know, but you were looking around and not paying any attention. Now if you want to carry on with whatever you’re doing, follow me.’ Allardini walked on forwards.
‘But, I’ve never left my home before, this is a new world to me. I’m just getting used to it, before….it….goes.’ Shaneo stuttered.
‘What do you mean ‘before it goes’?’ Allardini looked, his French voice quietened.
‘Why do you think I’ve left my home?
Why do you think I’ve decided to sacrifice everything for mankind?
WHY, WHY?
TELL ME WHY!’ Shaneo replied, his green eyes filling with tears.
‘I don’t know why. I don’t think I will. Tell me, why are you here?’ Allardini sounded confused
‘I did not ask to be here, fate chose me to stop whatever is going to destroy our home, our lives, our civilisation. I can’t though, I can’t. I’m just a weak boy, never held a sword, never heard of war, never heard of darkness against light, never known about myself. I don’t even know who I am. I was chosen to be a saviour because of my father being a hero, but, Edgy killed him, he’s sure to destroy me…I can’t do this.’
Allardini’s eyes lost their brightness, and for the first time in his life he was lost for words. He carried on down the stone corridor, leaving Shaneo to stand crying.
‘I didn’t ask,’ he muttered ‘I didn’t ask’
‘Shaneo, are you still there?’ Allardini shouted down the corridor. Shaneo’s head slowly rose after looking at the two teardrops he had cried,
‘I’m coming.’ he silently replied and ran down the corridor and up the twisting staircase Allardini had already climbed.

‘Right, where’s this princess we’re looking for then?’ Shaneo smiled cockily at Allardini.
‘Right down this way.’ He looked at Shaneo and ran through the castle ‘try and keep up with me.’
Shaneo laughed and ran after him, ‘I’m Shaneo, I can run faster then the cheetah, fly higher then the eagle, swim deeper then the fish.’
‘Don’t overdo it.’ Allardini smiled at him.
‘WHOAH! STOP!’ Shaneo stopped ahead of Allardini. ‘It’s those guards again.’
‘Be quiet,’ Allardini looked around and saw an open doorway, ‘follow me.’

They sneaked into the room. Shaneo looked at the bright floral patterns, the beautiful tapestries, the amazing window patterns,
‘woooowwww’ Shaneo whispered, Allardini just smiled at him.
After the guards had gone past, the two boys snuck out of the room.
‘What was that room?’ Shaneo asked Allardini.
‘That was the sewing room, the ladies use it a lot, for sewing purposes.’
They walked through the stone corridors and entered the courtyard, they started to run through past the unknowing guards, Shaneo only had time to admire the fine way in which the plants had been taken care of and the fine stained glass windows. They ran into a doorway and Allardini tripped over the step.
‘Sacre Bleu!’ he exclaimed as he tripped over.
‘Mind the step!’ Shaneo laughed, then Allardini laughed. Then there was a sound of stones moving, falling, skipping.
‘Oh god, we’re in trouble,’ Allardini yelped, ‘no way out.’
Shaneo looked around the darkened hallway and saw a small gap.
‘Over here.’ He whispered at Allardini, he ran through the gap and Allardini followed.
They had found another route,
‘How did you find this?’ Allardini said.
‘I have a finer eyesight.’ Shaneo replied leading him down a darker more dismal route.

They started to run down the corridors again, laughing and shouting with joy once again. Then, they stopped, at a door, but why was this door so special for them to take notice of? It was brighter, and more colourful than the others, it was lined with a golden colour and had the same floral patterns as Shaneo had seen in the sewing room before.

Slowly, but surely, Shaneo raised his hand to the door and knocked…once…twice…three times.
