"Hot on the heels of the formal announcement of Final Fantasy X-2, Japanese site Quiter is reporting that series' producer Yoshinori Kitase mentioned a possible sequel to the series' most popular installment, Final Fantasy VII, in the upcoming issue of Japan's number one game magazine, Famitsu.

According to Quiter, in an interview in the mag, Kitase says that he would like to make a continuation to FFVII -- and lots of other people do, too, including character designer Tetsuya Nomura (who recently debuted as a director in his own right with Square's immensely popular Kingdom Hearts.) Kitase goes on to say that since there are so many ardent fans of the game, they don't want to make a bad game. Consequently, concrete plans and a schedule for the game have not been decided upon.

It sounds a bit far-fetched, but so did FFX-2 until it happened. We'll see what develops in the future."

Just thought you might like to know, if it were to go ahead it would be interesting. VERY interesting.......

Yep, felt very linear because of that. I might go load up FF6 one day soon, I was enjoying playing that. Goes to show graphics aren't much when the game is so good.

Maybe FF can do what Zelda Majora's Mask did, it was what happened after Ocarina of Time, just a different storyline with subtle hints to the previous game, a direct follow up won't really be the same. Finding a way to bring Sephiroth back and maybe go to a new yet similar world would be one way it could be interesting.

I think if Sephiroth does return in a FF game it would be very good indeed. It would have to a really good game though.

FFX is alright, not as gripping though I admit. Maester Seymour is quite a good bad guy though. Obviously not as good as Sepiroth though. The thing about FFX that I missed as lame as it may seem there was no world map, in that sense it didn't feel as free if you know what I mean.

perhaps. maybe they should concentrate on makinf a FF game that can match #7, but have it removed from #7 as all the others are from eachother.

I've fallen out with the FF games slowly. FF8 was too short and disappointing, and FF9 just didn't drag me in the same as all the previous games, so when FFX came out, I didn't buy a PS2 for it, since I expected it to go further downhill, and from all accounts, it did to some extent.

FF7 is proof that you don't need super graphics and too many lengthy FMV cut scenes to make a game work.

A FF7 sequel would be very nice indeed, like you've said though without Sephiroth it wouldn't be nearly as good. Thinking about it I would rather there wasn't a sequel to this, it would spoil it if the game didn't live up to the first, the way you actually cared about Cloud and his whole mysterious past, Sephiroths dark secret, the deal with his mother. All fabulous stuff which I don't think should be played with in another game.

Yup, I had enough trouble getting my head around that the first time, Imagine if they made a sequel which was just as complicated and relied on prior knowledge of he FF7 storyline.

The problem with making such games must really lie in storyline. I mean, all the ins and outs of FF7 far surpassed the depth in all the games since. I can imagine that he may be hesitant to put in the required amount of effort into a game at this time. My guess would be they have too many other projects on the go to be thinking about it.

Don't forget this is someones translation from the original english. In my opinon he means that FF7 was so great that it would be a mistake or difficult to make a sequel. I don't think any buisness would say to a magazine, in an interview, that they don't need to try because it will sell on the basis of the original.

It sounds to me as if he may have been asked a leading question, something like, now your making a sequal to FFX are there any plans for sequels to other FFs?

I guess its not a dead cert to happen, It sounds like the staff at Square are up for it even if he sounds not so up for it.
