I got it the day before it came out!
Completed it this summer! FANTASTIC game!
:D
Theres nothing to expirence.
If you decide to just walk around talking to people all you'll be able to do is ask them the same question you ask everbody else! (question depends on stage in the game).
It's so pathetic you can't even choose what to say in a conversation.
If you 'just walkaround' and 'take your time' theres nothing for you to do!
You can't have a conversation with someone, theres no secrets to find, no areas to explore, no fights to get into.
All you can do is play on the old arcade games, which is admittly better than playing Shenmue anyway.
Cooky, you should get Shenmue II. It's much better, and there is more fighting and a faster pace and more interesting environments. The story is better too.

I borrowed my mates Dreamcast and Shenmue and I completed it in a day and a half the first time I played it. Thought it looked nice, but was a bit kak! Too linear etc. But then I got my own Dreamcast and wanted to play the game again, so went out and bought it. If you take your time with the game instead of just going from one point to the other like the game tells you to, you can have a much more interesting experiance. I now luv the game to bits!
