The article was about a forthcoming 3D platformer from Jester Interactive, makers of PS2's 'Music' titles, among others. The name of the platformer is Vexx, and it supposedly has a very dark storyline.
It all looks and sounds very good, but this is all besides the point. What really grabbed by attention was a small box-out, regarding other titles in Jester's production line...
Somehow I missed it when it happened, but apparently, over a year ago, Jester bought the rights to the back-catalogue of Graftgold - one of the best developers of the 80's. This purchase gives them rights to 21 Graftgold games, including Commodore 64/Spectrum classics...
Paradroid and Uridium
Now I don't know how many of you know about or remember these titles, but the older ones among you should. I can't even begin to wonder how many hours of my childhood were lost to these two games, or how many homework projects/assignments were delivered late - if at all.
Paradroid - starting as a weak robot, regain control of your spaceship by patrolling the corridors and taking control of bigger, more powerful robots. Certain robots only have access to certain areas of the ship, so you must choose your victim wisely, working your way up the chain until you can get where you need to go.
Uridium - blindingly fast top-down left-right scrolling shooter. Pilot your fighter over the surface of huge space-going freighters, taking out their defence turrets, deftly dodging between obstacles on the deck, and destroying waves of enemy fighters.
And now Jester are re-making these titles, updated for the next-gen era.
Their website - http://www.jesterinteractive.com - has more details, along with screenshots and a 6.7Mb MPEG clip of (the new) Paradroid from the ECTS show.
If they get it them right, it might teach you young whippersnappers something about playability that you never knew existed! :-)
I can't wait!

Bearing in mind Iguana is only about 14 (I think), that's bordering on the Michael Jackson...

Seems a little mean?
Haven't looked back. Well I have, because I can't actually remember any of that.

I still think it was funky being able to play Space Invaders as the game proper loaded in the background...
(Then I got a floppy drive and didnt care anymore... but still)
