To be totally honest, I'm too awe-struck to progress through the game in a rapid pace that I thought I would.
I try to savour every detail, to take heed to every command and instruction. I listen Intently to the directions and set-instructions via the in-game codec.
I investigate the environments that are abundant in detail and perfection. I go to every nook and cranny, in case...just in case, there is an item that 'might' prove useful.
Metal Gear Solid 2- from the moment you see the amazing intro on-screen- is wonderful!
Yep, as you can probably guess, I love this game-With a passion.
Without boasting too much, I was a bit of a Metal Gear Solid expert, when I had eventually finished the prequel on the Playstation.
Naturally, like many, I awaited the sequel. But to be honest, I wasn't expecting much.
I 'did' look at the screenshots printed and published in magazines and on the Internet, I wasn't overly excited to tell you the truth.
But Oh, how I was so wrong. Indeed very wrong!.
This game oozes with pure brilliance with every corner you turn. The Ideas that went into the game are second to none. It's realism in many aspects will have you pinching yourself, just to reassure that you 'are not there'.
For instance(Without giving too much away) when your controlling Snake, during the 'First Chapter', a guard patrolling a corridor might notice you and when he does, he alerts his superiors who then dispatch SWAT teams to the area.
However you are beside a locker room, when you enter it all feels and looks natural at first, but you can open the lockers and hide (Sometimes revealing oriental delights)and climb-in, snake then shuts the door!.
Then, you hear footsteps,(peering at the picture of the girl will make peculiar squelching noises-'weird') on the top right of the screen it shows the guards entering, you can look through the slits in the locker, The Dual Shock is literally 'Thumping'like a heart!- Getting faster and faster the closer the guards get to your locker.
But then-Joy! Their superior tells the guards to split up and increase security. They then leave the room, the Dual Shock calms down until it stops beating-Phew.
You can tell from this that a lot of detail went into the game. Im only half-way through and can only relate to my experiences thus far. But geez it really does keep the pace! So far with my experience, the game retains the excitement that gives it an attitude un-seen before in games.
Konami-CEJ took their time with this one releasing it on European shores, but in reality we didn't suffer too much. Contained (As many will know) inside the case is a Documentary DVD, which includes typical DVD bonus-like features such as Art galleries and Avertisements to the title. Nice touch, and a nice extra- Something the Americans and Japanese will not experience.
I'll leave this off with a word of advice, this game has to be played, Its an experience when you do! the screen shots (Although they might look fantastic to some) don't do the game proper justice.
This game, after nearly a week of Play- Is the PS2's Holy grail.
You have to experience it to believe.

Er, they DO notice getting shot in the leg, that's why they turn round. However, I should think the whole point of the weapon is that it can't be detected.
> MGS2 is the best and i think Rose is annoying
Aint half as bad as Meryl, grrrr
>What about SSBM?????
Aload of Nintendo characters in Nintendo's version of a beat em up, lol good fun but it doesn't come close to an experience like Metal Gear Solid 2, for me anyway :-)
> MGS2 is game of the year, no questions asked!!!!!!
What about SSBM?????
>Do you agree with my point about Rose or not???
I'd have to, She was cool at first and a nice break from Mai Ling's little speechs of wisdom *shudders* but she just kept bugging Raiden and yes she got very annoying, guess thats her character though :-)
But, Do you agree with my point about Rose or not???
MGS2 is a good, no, great game which I played for several hours.
But it is really flawed aswell which i think could have easily been improved:
1. AI: This is where the game really lacks, the guards are just so stupid and slow witted, for a start they can hardly put a good shot in and never, well hardly ever duck a shot or strafe to avoid them.
2. Realism: It is quite annoying when a dart hits someone in the back of the leg and they don't realise, surely they would call for help if this happened. Also on the first chapter where the marines are watching the colonel's speech you can hold marines hostage and shoot them in the head without the marines even noticing, which just lowers the experiance level really.
3. Difficulty: I just think it is stupid that I could get through half the game on HARD without facing too many problems. The game is incredibly easy.
Apart from that the game is really good, it just could have done so much more...
Honestly, the attention to detail and the atmospheric locations really add that bit more fun to a game that has quality... oozing from the front end vents of my PS2.
I played it last night and boy does time fly! It wasn't until I heard the Dawn Chorus outside, that I relaised the time. And I know, you might think Im joking saying that, but im telling the truth. I really did sit that long. Thankgod I wasn't working this morning.
But amongst the excitement, the brilliance and fun factor of this game-Ive reached a little point in the game what I don't like!
Rose Is a big problem!
To me she is an absolute nuisance. She is constantly moaning, going on about "Love" "dedication" and so forth. Her constant Ramblings such as: "But you Never open up to me!"..."You never let me into your room!"..."But why" and not to mention 5 minutes worth of clap trap such as:"I love you, you are very important to me, do you not know what day it is tomorrow?Do you know the speciality of that day?"
Arghhh! and it doesn't stop there!!
I mean the guy is meant to be in a serious situation, stopping terrorists and so on, I'm sure he doesn't want to be hiding in a locker in suspense only to switch to codec and listen to this!!
Its got to the stage where I'm afraid to save the game.
Now when she rambles on I hit the Circle button rapidly to by-pass every boring-useless-good for nothing 20 minute drivel that she spouts. But don't let that put you off, I find the Codecs in general useful-But not Rose, everything else is just right.
God If my girlfriend was like that I'd have left her years ago.
