Neither - the big bang. Seriously though, the chicken. The chicken evolved from some other primative organism gradually over time until it was no longer that organism, but a new one (the chicken).

Neither came first, the whole story is just an ellaborate setup, to hide the truth. The truth being, that Aliens zapped an egg down to earth, and it hatched...happy now?

The offical explaination given by scientists is that two non-chicken creatures got together and an egg with the combined elements which made the chicken came out. So therefore, the egg came first.
