But when you compile the database, which you would for security, you would not be able to add new users. If you want to be clever you can have a table with users and passwords and use Dlookup to a associate a user with a password, that way you can have a compiled program that is very good for security and be able to add/delete new users.

All of what FM just said is spot on.

I was on the IT AS course at the beginning of the year, but after an argument with my tutor she told me she had

'No respect for my information technology knowledge.'

I was furious and said,
'No respect for yourself then, because its clear I know more than you'.

'I built this secure network the whole school uses, what have you done?'

'Secure? In what way, you are bloody running WindowsNT'

'It has never been hacked into, nor has one virus been downloaded onto it'

'You saying I can't?'

One thing lead to another, and two weeks later I found myself being thrown from the course, and also possibly out off the college, luckily a couple of students helped me out by telling the principle what happened.

Simple, I installed a keycopier onto the main server, recording everything any typed, including passwords and usernames, even exam questions. Every three days I would be sent a report to my email address, the installation was hidden, it was not known as a virus because it was a program. Its still running, I just didn't tell them where it was....

That was that. I lost a year of learning something I taught myself when I was about nine. I still come to the same conclusion. Its Micrsoft's fault.. I wouldn't have had that argument if it wasn't for that crap operating system.

I rule. That tutor left college.

'That a challenge

Be original. Be creative. Be yourself.

In other words quit the course now. MS Access databases have to be the most boring thing ever devised. There's a whole big wide world out there with 6 billion people in it, amazing cultures, ancient ruins, a diversity of landscapes to explore and limitless possibilities.

Meanwhile you'll be sitting there trying to get one part of your database to work with another and can't because somewhere there's a link missing.

And all for what?

Be a rebel.

My project was in MS Excel and had to run a small company (like the ones you have in Young Enterprise) and do a bomb of work for it covering all expenditure aspects and do all that other stuff which I can't be bothered to put down.

My project wasn't based in Access I only used that a litte so err I'm no help.

Hey!

I'm doing an A2 access project right now!

So, how to enforce security.

Well, you can have a password entry, encrypt the database, and have physical security (ie, have it on a computer without a modem). If you are on the net, have a firewall etc.

Security can also mean keeping the data non-corrupt. This can be done by making regular backup copies of it.

Hope that helped!

Now I think of it, there is one thing....

Ive been asked to answer:

How will security be enforced in the system?

---

Any ideas?

I think they mean things like passwords, and restricted access to certain users etc...
