I for one have not even been upgraded to digital let alone Broadband and I would certainly not pay an extra £10 a month on top of the already over priced broadband access to get Xbox live.
I am sure they think the UK is like a mini America but it is just not the case 250,000 users is nothing like the figure in US, X-box hoping to have 1mil users by the end of 2003 and when X-box2 comes out in 2005 4mil they are living in dreamland. You would think companies like Sony and MS would be more in touch with the UK consumer.
I think it is a very big gamble and one that is to early for the technology in place in 5years time it might be different, but I wouldn't count on it.
A good judge of this is FF11 which was released in Countries like the US and Japan that have a lot of Broadband coverage and the sales of the game were pathetic compared to the numbers they sold as a stand alone game FF10.
More than 30% have access to broadband and it's increasing.
More people are picking up broadband as well. It's looking to the future.
How can that be though as I have stated coverage is at 30%, but only 7% of that 30% have taken it up and out of that how many of them will be playing games online 1 or 2% maybe.
Another point is that the if a place wants broadband they have register an interest of least 700 enquirers there is not even that many people in my village, another place with a population of 15,000 had only 70 enquirers that is a pitaful amount and suggests the hunger for broadband is not there and nothing like it's being hyped up to be. Even BT have admitted the 30% of the country might never get broadband.
The price is another issue £20 gets you the slowest internet 120k connection where as if your want the fast service which is more idealy suited to gaming 512k that can cost between £30 and £40, with the charges being so high will face the same fate as ISDN people didn't go for that.

The broadband access itself is expensive, but that includes websurfing and various other communications benefits. Xbox live is only £40 on top of that - including start up and a years subscription.

More and more people are getting broadband as it becomes more established.
Besides, the PS3 and Xbox 2 are based around broadband access so you could call this stage the warm up test run.
we're planning a 16 player timesplitters soon....
Will that run over NB or BB?
Whichever, will the gateway allow for other tasks such as email, web, etc?
