Grand Theft Auto 3, as I`ve mentioned a couple of times over the last year, somehow manages to stay in the top 10 all-formats chart. I could see why at first, with many people not realising how good the game was until they`d seen it at friends houses etc... and as a result bought the game later. That would explain why it stayed at number 1 until Christmas, but how did it manage to stay there all year? I don`t know, but it was impressive!

Anyway, the reason its getting stupid now is that its still there, number 7 if I remember correctly, and yet Vice City has been around for over a week now. I was shocked to see GTA3 still clinging on to the top 10 despite its little brother selling such a huge number of copies. I guess it might finally leave the top 10 next week, but I`m still amazed its there right now.

On a similar topic, how do you think Vice City's sales will compare? Its totally outdoing GTA3 *now* but is it too much too soon? In a couple of months nearly everyone who wants a copy will have a copy, and I feel it is unlikely the game will still be in the top 10 when its GTA3's age.

Any thoughts?

lol! Interesting, it said I made the 4th post in the topic on the outside, but when you look in here, I made the third, and it was IB that did the 4th. Ah well, that`ll be gone now with the 5th post.

plenty of rational explanations.

1) low stock
2) lower price for GTA3
3) a huge pool of stupid people who happen to own PS2s...

Its certainly possible, but the GTA3 sales haven`t really changed it seems. Last week, in the charts before Vice City's release, GTA3 was 6th, it is now 7th, so the sales have dropped a little, but its amazing that they are still high enough to make the chart.

GTA3 just keeps selling a selling at a steady rate, totally unaffected by anything, though I guess this week the sales might have decreased thanks to Vice City competition, but also, as you say, increased to cancel it out by being an alternative when Vice City is sold out.

Is it possible that people who want GTA:VC, but can't get it because of low stock, are buying GTA3 instead.

Or that people having played and loved GTA:VC, now want to try its predecesor.
