Right now lots of us are playing MGS 2, and are not paying much attention to the other games that are available right now on the market (you really have to feel for the developers of the games released on the same day, i bet they hardly sold). We have been waiting for this game for a long time, the hype was truly outstanding, and the game was considered 'the next big thing' on the PS2. But now whats the next big thing?

Because to be honest, i cant see one, not many magazines that i have read lately, not that i get many have pointed out any truly great games to look out for like they did MGS2, nor has the internet. So why? Is it the fact that there really are non in the pipe line at the minute? That we have not got no more truly great games in the coming months apart from FF10 to play? I dont think so, i fail to see that we have no more superb games other than FF 10 to look forward to, i think its more of a fact that the industry is changing.

MGS 2 was one of the few games that had lots of hype around it, where as games like Pro Evo, GTA3 and DMC all used the word of mouth and reviews that were done at the time to sell. The developers did not go around with the hype of these games and send all the gamers expectations sky high. And thats what i think the developers are doing right now. GTA 3, pro evo and DMC were all great games, and when they were released hardly anyone had anything bad to say about them, we thought they were pritty perfect. Where as MGS 2 with all its hype has come with a fair amount of flack with the high expectations, mainly around the cut scenes, and because of this got some bad reviews, which surely would have been influenced by the hype and that the game did not live up to it entirely.

So the reason why i think that we have not heard about many great games to come out soon is that the developers are being a little more carefull not to over sell there games too early and shoot themselves in the foot before its even released. They are keeping quite so that when the game is released its looks very good and has things that we were not at all expecting within it.

Makes sence.

I know what you are saying about the lack of hyping up new games but with the X Box and Gamecube coming out Sony will be making sure top titles will be coming out to keep the PS2 at the top.

Here is a list of some of the games coming out.

Final Fantasy 10, Stuntman, Tekken 4, Pro Evolution 2, Turok Evolution, Toca Race Driver, Colin Mcrae, V rally, GTA Miami, Star Wars Jedi Starfighter, Matt Hoffman 2, Star Wars Racers Revenge, F355, Ico, No One Lives Forever, Soldier of Fortune, FF11, Mortal Kombat 5, Soul Calibur 2, Virtua Fighter 4, Worm Blast, Tiemsplitters 2, Broken Sword, Dues ex, Medal of Honour.

Thats just a very small list - must be something there for most people - and just for you PE there must be at least three Fifa games coming out this year !!!

STUNTMAN is looking very nice indeed and could be the next big thing.

The next big thing hype-wise or commercially will not necessarily be the next big thing for me.
Personally I'm looking forward with great anticipation to ICO. Having played GTA3 for the past few weeks I'm getting a little tired of ultra violence, and I'm now in the mood for something a touch more relaxing, tranquil and subtle.

It wont be sold out for weeks! Sellers will anticipate the demand for the product so therefore will buy enough stock to cope - ie. what shops have done for MGS2. Thats not sold out anywhere although loads have bout it. Retailers arent stupid they know about supply and demand of games.

You are right, but I dont actually think that Konami have actually hyped MGS2 THAT much. I personally think that about 80% of the hype came from the media and the gamers who have all experinced the first title on the PSone. Konami basically saved a lot of money because the game was publicised for them for nothing. They just sat there doing their job, trying to bring us the best package possible and they have achieved that.

And next time we all should consider the fact that hype is coming from US, not the developers or the publishers of the game. And I think that if the games are not hyped as much as they could or should be, its only going to benefit us gamers more.
