With Vice City just being released, i wondered whether i should get that. Now my friend tells me its very like GTA III and its getting a bit boring, i wondered whether to get The Getaway. I have been on a few sites, trying to find out information. I only found out a few aspects of the game, like that there will be no health meter, no map and no inventory. I would be really apresiative if any of you could tell me a bit more about the game, like how many cars there will be and what type they will be. Thanks.

As much as I love the GTA games, I think the Getaway will, for me anyway, be better. It's far more serious than GTA, with a much deeper and better-scripted storyline that should give some purpose to you playing.

I like how the developers have taken away all of the health and stats bars that would otherwise clog the screen up, it means you actually get to see more on screen. It's also nice to see a game set in more familiar settings. A proper British city with proper British cars makes a nice change from the huge anonymous American settings and vehicles.

All in all I can't wait, and though it may not live up to it's hype, I doubt I’ll be disappointed.

I'm really looking forward to this one - especially being able to drive past the office and run over a few pedestrians (can you??).

The problem is that with ground breaking games such as this, things can easily go wrong. It's good to see everyone working themselves onto a frenzy over this one, but I'll probably wait for a few reviews or a demo before I decide whether to part with my hard earned cash.

I certainly hope my fears are unfounded though....

I was watching a PSM2 DVD last night, with in-game footage of The Getaway.

Graphically, at least, it is far superior to Vice City. Not only are the graphics more detailed and accurate, but the speed seems to remain high, and the draw distance is absolutely superb, with no discernable pop-up that I could see.

Comparisons with Vice City are inevitable, but they're really two quite different games. GTA has you doing the 'wrong' things simply to get rich, while The Getaway has you doing the wrong things for the right reason (saving your son's life) in the first 12 missions, and the right things for the right reasons as a police officer in the last 12 missions. GTA has a 'cartoon' feel about the whole thing, while The Getaway is far more serious. It's like comparing Ridge Racer 5 to Gran Turismo 3 - both are great, fun games about the same subject, but take a very different approach - one has cartoon simplicity, while the other is far more realistic.

As a Londoner myself, I am really looking forward to the game.

So, it looks like Driver 1 then, with even better graphics?

Let me expand. It looks like Driver 1 because of the narrow criss-cross streets lined with tall buildings.

Yes it does have the freedom of GTA3/Vice City. One option available straight away is a free roaming mode. If that's not freedom, I don't know what is.

If you mean freedom in terms of what order you do your missions, then you are right. GTA3/Vice City lets you do missions in whatever order you want, within certain limits anyway. With The getaway, you do one mission, then the next, then the next. Everything is scripted, se every time you play a mission, everything is the same. However, in terms of the city itself, it's as free as free can be.

I've seen the Audi TT or an Audi very similar to the TT in alot of screen shots. I have also seen the AK-47 in quite a few. It looks as if you can take hostages and put a gun to their head, this games gonna rule.

Get both. I'm sure you can get them for Christmas. I'm getting 5 news games for X-Mas.

The things that put me off the game is the realisticness of it. I don't know about some but it just kinda seems a bit dumb to not have a health meter and it would really annoy me when the guy is nearly dead and he's practically crawling around really slowly, i'd end up just comitting suicide. But GTA:VC is getting a bit repetitive too quickly for my liking.
