Hi,

I have an N64 and a PSX and I'm wondering if it's possible to soak my N64 (and maybe my PSX) in a bath full of alcohol? The reason being is that I had a little dirty accident with both and need to take desperate measures. And no, it's not that.

What I'm thinking is, if a use alcohol it will evaporate when I take it out to dry. Therefore it would be like no liquid came in contact with the machine in the end, right? I'm not sure if this method would work with the PSX as there's a CD drive to deal with. But if I'm soaking it, what the heck.

That's all, thanks.

Thanks for your help Untitled.

If there's any body else, preferably a technical minded person, who could also give their adive I would be grateful.

Other things I'm wondering are, I heard that circuit boards in computers can be easily damaged with 'hand static', so if I used alcohol on the circuit boards of a N64 would it be more gentler than static?

Here's my plan. I'd have a bowl full of alcohol that is big enough to submerge my N64 in. Which I'll leave over night for about 13-14 hours approx (in my bathroom). And then I'll take it out and leave it to dry for as long as it takes (days, weeks).

pure alcohol does, but if it gets inside any of the wires, then it might not fully evaporate for while, if they just smell bad then leave them outside for a bit in the day, not night as it is too cold, and cover them with sumthig so they dont get wet,

Both the N64 and the PSX have some how been contaminated with a very, very strong odour. So I thought that pure alcohol would do the trick as it evaporates 100%, doesn't it? And how would I get electrocuted if it has all evaporated? I'm willing to wait until it dries out before using it anyway. Which shouldn't take long as alcohol dries fairly quickly.

no its not, unless you want to get electrocuted, you could use it to clean the outside, but if you want to clean the inside you should just open it up and use either a dry cloth or a slighty wet one and then leave it to dry, naturally, and you would have to use pure alcohol (ethanol) not whisky or sumthing, as it would be sticky

what exactly is it your trying to clean off, dust and household dirt, or what?
