A short stewing for all would be gaming gurus out there, first person to correctly answer all of the questions may proclaim themselves the monarch of mystery, or conquerer of the quiz. Now your starter for ten...

"I plead the first" - A collection of gaming firsts, can you correctly identify the numero uno...

1) What game was the first to feature a now famous mustachioed, Italian plumber?

2) Which PC, C64, and Spectrum title was the first ever game to use 3D graphics?

3) Name the first ever 3D platform game to appear on a gaming console.

4) Which game, and what system, was the first ever title based upon Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels?

5) Which game, and what system, would you find the first instance of a character named "Miles Prower"?

"Whodunnit?" - A collection of mysterious faces, can you shed light on the correct culprit?

6) Who was the original creator of the T-Virus and what sinister corporate front did they create which continues to crop up in titles to this day? A bonus point if contestants can correctly cite the middle initial of this persons full name.

7) Loathed by their sister, frozen, suffered from forced amnesia, took part in a certain famous tournament, and worked as a professional killer... who would we associate with this description?

8) Inventor of parachute knickers, occasionally named after a form of fungi.

9) A man hidden behind a robotic ninja costume, out for revenge... and release, with the help of an old friend. Can you provide the correct name?

10) Another gaming first, this canine character knows how to strut his stuff, his favourite note is "b flat".

"The hills are alive with the sound of..." - Name that place.

11) Name the mythical land in which we first met the characters Link, and Zelda.

12) The humanly challenged domain in which the brothers mario made their first concurrent appearance.

13) A place where we might discover a pink, bulbous character, who can hold his breath for a very long time.

14) The city in which one would expect to encounter the living dead, and cheesy voice acting.

15) The homeworld of two alien joyriders, one large and orange, the other wobbly and red.

Answers on the back of a postcard please. As ever, your first answer is the only one which can be accepted; so think carefully before making your choice.

Okay, here you go. Here are the definitive answers to this quiz.

> 1) What game was the first to feature a now famous mustachioed,
> Italian plumber?

Well because this question doesn’t actually use the name Mario, I am assuming that you are talking about the first time the character that *became* Mario (his first outing under the name ‘Mario’ came in Super Mario Bros.) was used. The answer is Donkey Kong.

> 2) Which PC, C64, and Spectrum title was the first ever game to use 3D graphics?

Elite

> 3) Name the first ever 3D platform game to appear on a gaming
> console.

Mario 64 was the first *true* 3D game on any console. (Nintendo 64)

> 4) Which game, and what system, was the first ever title based upon
> Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels?

PC graphic adventure called ‘Discword’
(for you trivia fans out there, I wrote the official guide to the game)

> 5) Which game, and what system, would you find the first instance of a character named "Miles Prower"?

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Sega MegaDrive)

> 6) Who was the original creator of the T-Virus and what sinister
> corporate front did they create which continues to crop up in titles to this day? A bonus point if contestants can correctly cite the middle initial of this persons full name.

Oswell E. Spencer (Umbrella Corporation) (or could be Ozwell – can’t remember the spelling)

> 7) Loathed by their sister, frozen, suffered from forced amnesia, took part in a certain famous tournament, and worked as a professional killer... who would we associate with this description?

Nina Williams - Tekken 1, 2 etc, etc :-D

> 8) Inventor of parachute knickers, occasionally named after a form of fungi.

Princess Toadstool

> 9) A man hidden behind a robotic ninja costume, out for revenge... and release, with the help of an old friend. Can you provide the correct name?

Well he was the ‘Ninja’ in Metal Gear Solid (PSX), and his code name was Grey Fox. Ah but you want his real name don’t you? Well its Frank Jaeger if memory serves me!

> 10) Another gaming first, this canine character knows how to strut his stuff, his favourite note is "b flat". "The hills are alive with the sound of..." - Name that place.

Hmmm, tricky this one. Don’t really know, but my best guess is Puma from Gitaroo Man.

> 11) Name the mythical land in which we first met the characters Link, and Zelda.

Hyrule

> 12) The humanly challenged domain in which the brothers mario made their first concurrent appearance.

Mushroom Kingdom

> 13) A place where we might discover a pink, bulbous character, who can hold his breath for a very long time.

Dreamland (Kirby)

> 14) The city in which one would expect to encounter the living dead, and cheesy voice acting.

Raccoon City

> 15) The homeworld of two alien joyriders, one large and orange, the other wobbly and red.

Yes, that's why you wasted time signing up solely to post a message on a topic about a pointless quiz... thus you have proven that you infact have no life. This is what we call irony, little one, you might learn about it one day should your tiny mind be capable of understanding the concept. ;)

Echelon.... you were *damn* close to getting the full 15 there, fell short by a few answers, but you managed to correctly answer several of the ones that have been confusing others. ;)

12/15 +1 which places you in the top spot, knocking Ros down to #2.

Ok, since it's not getting very close to us having a winner, I'll reveal that the questions Ech' answered incorrectly were:

3, 4, and 10 - Mario64 was not the first 3D console game, despite popular belief, it was pipped to the finish line by another title; might have something to do with rabbits. Discworld (point & click game) wasn't the first game featuring Pratchett's Discworld characters and story. You did sort of shoot yourself in the foot on 10 though, I mentioned it was another gaming first; guitaroo man is a recent title, but you were close. ;)

I see us having a victor before the end of the day.
