As quick as a whisper, and as silent as a calm wind, there gone. Fading into the earth, or floating away. Disappearing never to be seen again. No good byes, no nothings, just silence, as they slip away.

But after death, where do they go?

They have no time for long drawn out funerals, the gathering folk cant sing the deceased theme tunes as they leave our grasps, there isn’t a wake after the service, forget the sandwiches, you have to move on right away, more often than not, the world depends on it.

Throughout the years we have lost some very important people in our lives, Aries, E.E, Ada, Wedge and many others. Dieing for what they believed in, trying to do the good for the world. Gruelling out pain staking tasks which in the end have only gone and cost them there own lives. Or maybe they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, maybe they were even the scum of the earth, the parasites that take away the good things in life, who knows, and little does it matter, as there now gone.

Is there a gaming heaven? Is there a gaming hell?

And the real question is, what are they like?

When Sepiroth found himself surplus to needs in the world, did he head for the pearly…dark rusty gates of Hell, and what the hell did he find in there. Is it hell, as we know it? Or some sort of terror, maybe even a world of Fluffy Nintendo Characters, what could be worse than spending eternity with dancing Pokemon, or worse, little Pikmin running around you!?

You look over to the left and sat there is Darth Vader and the Evil Emperor, who have finally given in to the bright fluffy side, as they dance around a campfire singing songs with Bowser.

Here is a life of hell, not only is the company bad, your only source of entertainment comes in the form of past mistakes, the Sega Saturn sits mutedly on its perch, with premature versions of Tomb Raider at the deprived victims finger tips. Then there is the Mega CD, the Game Gear and the N64 surrounding it, just like a room of torment, as they sit there, eyes strained as they are forced to play these terrors. What could be worse?

A room full of the most horrible games known to man, rows upon rows of games collected, the only other ones you’re allowed to play. Army Men series take over, Fifa and other old hash games. The terror! It’s a world for all the villains.

Now that is some kind of hell.

But what of the fellow people going to heaven, what it’s like for them? A world above the clouds with a multi-console arena and online network that’s, against all odds, actually does work? A life of gaming pleasure, with the click of a finger the game they want to play on lands in there laps. A wonderful world.

The male characters having their stay are surrounded by the beautiful fighters from Dead or Alive, bowing to their every need. Then the likes of Lara and co have their personal servants too. It’s a world for all the Heroes.

Life could be good here, very good. Even the lesser known ones get their place in heaven. The innocent victims of rage as they get mowed down in a Banshee, or were just too damn close to that grenade when it went off. The limbless soldiers too all come together here, discussing past missions and story telling, all the usual banter, how we should have done that and done this. Everyone has his or her own place. But then again, there is a place for the lesser-known baddies too. Back with those blasted Pikmin!

Death is not always a bad thing for these people, its a relief, they can get away from the pressures of taking over the world, all that expectancy off there back. And the ones expected to save the world can relax too, having found there place in the sun, they can lie, and think of there past adventures. Finally, they can have some peace.

Are our heroes and villains ever really gone? Yes.

Until…

To put both your minds at rest........ :D

I was talking about Wedge from FF7.
And Ada was the woman in the red dress from Resident Evil 2.

Nope, that was Biggs Darklighter, (as well as a load of other pilots). Wedge Antilles lived through it... and the Battle of Endor... and about a hundred others since then. He`s now a high ranking member of the New Republic Defence. (Or at least, whats left of it).

Nice. Very nice.

I take it that's the FF7 Wedge? Or the original Star Wars one? seeing as it's games - I think the 1st.

I agree with Aeris, and I suppose I`ll go along with E.E because Otacon wouldn`t be happy otherwise, but... which Wedge is that? An FF Wedge, a Star Wars one, or like a door stop? As for Ada, was that the Jehuty computer? If so, if computers aren't considered to be alive, then surely computers inside computers aren`t alive either :D But anway, I totally agree with your point, there are often big moments like that where you lose a character you wish hadn`t had to go.

> Or maybe they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time,

Yeh, like virtually every innocent pedestrian in Grand Theft Auto :D

A: "That wasn`t my fault! He walked out in front of me"
B: "The light was red, you should have stopped"
A: "What light?"
B: "That red one about a mile back down the road"
etc...

Oddly, though big names like Sephiroth, Ultimecia, Sin, etc... are all taken care of, there are often exceptions. Robotnik is one... you can keep destroying him, but he always comes back. Also, Liquid Snake appears to be virtually immortal.

Yes. No.

Hmmm. Prev, is it really *that* bad living up north? :D

> or worse, little Pikmin running around you!?

Some advice for ya - don`t have kids :D Or at least, not too many of them anyway. They seem a lot like Pikmin.

Hmmm, as a Star Wars fan, I'll ignore that :D

lol! Yeh, football games! That would be bad!

Now *this* is why I replied :D I think that if you were stuck in a gaming world, then DOA characters such as Kasumi, good ol` Lara, and of course Rikku, would make gaming heaven...heavenly. In real life though... dunno. Slightly pixelish :D
