Exactly. for nine months it would have been acceptable.
But for five years to make a 15 hour game with no innovations or original ideas is just criminal.

Already on the way. Starfox Armada is being developed by Namco, apperently lots of dogfighting in this one :D
The fact of the matter is that when Ninty give Rare one of their biggest franchises, and 5 years to work on it, you expect almost revolutionary gameplay, with innovative concepts and a tightly knit gameplay ethic.
Simply by the sheer amount of disagreement over the game it's clear that Rare have not hit the high expectations that we expect. Without having played the game I can tell you that the combat isn't well thought out (as one edge columist points out, the lack of ability to change who you lock onto does not matter: enemies attack one by one anyway!). The puzzle elements really don't seem to have developed any new ideas, and the adventure element is uninspiring (no one has yet to say that the replay value and bonuses are very good).
Personally, I'm just hoping for a proper space-based shooting version of the game...
