Thanks.
I stand by what i heard at the time which is that Datel are experiencing major problems with getting the product to run on a mini-disk and indeed to be used with multiple disk games, now i know some people have stated that they have seen the Freeloader up and running in bug tests etc but i dont buy that, theres a major problem with Freeloader that is a little more serious than simply 'it wont work with this game or that game' because im 99% sure that if (and it is an if) Freeloader does get released then its asking a little bit much for it to be compatible with every single game baring in mind many Gamecube games havnt yet even been drawn let alone released, so if that was the sole problem then it wouldnt stop them releasing it.
Freeloader... a bold attempt or a bridge too far?
Oh, by the way, why would Goblin Direct get exclusive emails sent straight to them about a release date when Datel will get more money by selling it themselves on their website?
Datel haven't sent Goblin emails with release dates - think of it logically. Why would they do that without announcing it on their own website first?
They used the same reason back in the summer saying it won't work with 2 disc games, well so far R.E is the only 2 disk game and again it's out in all regions. It will be "freeloader doesn't work with Metroid Prime" next and they won't release it until they are happy blah blah blah.
The only people that would benefit from the freeloader working with either R.E or SMS are people who have already bought the game, so if datel care about these people so much why didn't they just tell people to not buy import games until the product was finished(i know they are saying this now but they should have said ir from the beginning)or at least be more forthcoming with the reasons behind the delay.
I don't doubt they have freeloader tech working but I believe the problem is either a: They simply can't manafacture the disks and they can't find anyone to do it for them.
or b: Nintendo have them tied up with legal issues, remember the cube disks are a proprietry format and panasonic have final say over who can or can't produce them.
There is no way that panasonic would risk falling out with nintendo over something like this, their relationship is far more important than a few quick bucks from a region-unlocking disk. I expect datel thought they could just burn them onto 8cm compact discs as you would think that they would work a la c.d in a dvd player. I'm sure Datel are trying their hardest to get it out but the way they have treated customers, taking their money for pre-orders and just moving the goalposts back every 14 days is a bit of a joke, now I know a lot of the release dates were down to optimistic retailers but datel did e-mail Goblin about a month ago saying it was 100%DEFINATE(their exact words)to be released in 14 days so obviously they had finished development and were planning to go into production but something has obviously gone wrong and why haven't they e-mailed goblin to explain why it's been delayed after getting everyones hopes up again, maybe it won't be out until jan and they know there are people out there with import games who would rather get an import cube for christmas than wait until jan for a disk that could easily get delayed again. Now thats a stupid theory but it may as well be true if datel aren't a little more forthcoming with the reasons behind the delays.
Hang on. Won't the freeloader either ) Ruin the European market.......or (better) B) Encourage Nintendo to do simoultaneus US/Euro releases?
That'd be nice.
DOh!
