Brace yourself... The GameCube hardware sales have doubled last week to an amazing number of 37.400 !! That is only one thousand less than the total PS2s sold that same week. Oh and the Xbox is on the 4th spot with only 1.900 units sold.
Not only are the hardware sales thriving in Japan, also the Nintendo software titles are selling like hot cakes! The top 5 of all the software being sold in Japan are games for either the GBA or the GCN.
New in the charts is Biohazard 0 of which almost 200k copies have been sold in just a couple of days.
Hardware:
1. GameBoy Advance - 150,800 (2,313,400)
2. PlayStation 2 - 38,400 (3,101,500)
3. GameCube - 37,400 (923,400)
4. XBox - 1,900 (273,600)
5. PS One - 1,800 (205,900)
6. WonderSwan Crystal - 1,300 (102,500)
Software:
1. Pocket Monsters Sapphire (Nintendo/GBA) - 549,300
2. Pocket Monsters Ruby (Nintendo/GBA) - 543,900
3. Biohazard 0 (Capcom/GC) - 194,900
4. Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation (Banpresto/GBA) - 147,300
5. Mario Party 4 (Nintendo/GC) - 31,600 (291,700)
6. Taiko no Tatsujin (Namco/PS2) - 27,800 128,700
7. Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter (Capcom/PS2) - 23,100 (106,800)
8. Pop n' Music 7 (Konami/PS2) - 20,500
9. DQ Characters: Torneko no Daiboiken 3 (Enix/PS2) - 19,500 (445,600)
10. Zero 4 Champ Series: Drift Champ (Hudson/PS2) - 18,700
I guess Nintendo are doing something right and not a single price cut or console bundle in site. Imagine what the sales figures will be like when a big game like Zelda or Pokemon was release on Gamecube.
150,000 GBA's sold quite literally taketh the piece really.
Xbox seems to be making a come back too, for one week it's actually managed to outsell the PS1 :D
GameBoy Advance 53,271 (2,199,820)
PlayStation 2 30,860 (3,141,650)
GameCube 15,965 (760,593)
SwanCrystal 2,198 (106,123)
PSone 2,098 (1222,725)
Xbox 1,362 (294,858)
GameBoy Color 574 (98,753)
As you can see from this, the GC isn't all that close to PS2 weekly slaes, and the Xbox still lags behind, not taking into account it is the only one of the lot not released first in the territory. It's total sales are under half the GC's, but when you consider the competition it's had then they are okay, especially when Nintendo's strongest releases are imminent or already available in Japan.
Plus the GBA figure is slightly more realistic eh ?
And what does all this prove ? Statistics are boring as hell, just play the games...

While it would be nice for a price drop to appear before christmas, I doubt it will happen.

It would be nice.
That new Xbox package puts the Gamecube price to shame, especially when the Xbox is packed with extra's like a hardrive (so you don't need memory cards) and a DVD player (while not essential, it's a very nice little bonus, especially for such a small price difference).
If Nintendo don't drop the Gamecube to £100 by Christmas then they've just gotten complacent!
Heheheh.
And what about Metroid Prime in America, it has sold as much in its first week as GTA: Vice City did in Europe (it did better in American though) and is selling double of what X-box Live's online package... Which was heralded as a great deal...
Now Nintendo Japan and America have been sorted for Christmas why not take a gander at us!
And it was just the other week that some illiterate ponce wrote in to Digitiser describing the Gamecube as a flop in it's homeland...
:P
Go Cube go!
woot woot
:)
