Argh!

Can someone please post the link for me to download the XP Drivers for the modem Freeola use in the MAXX PC's?

I know I've posted this before, but due some immense stupidity on my part, I've lost EVERYTHING on my PC this weekend and I'm having to start from scratch with everything.

Many thanks.

It's the whole time.

I *want* to hear it when it's dialling up and connecting, but I want the speaker to switch off after connection - as it should do.

It's not fun uploading your website for an hour with that racket.

Also, under Windows ME, there were four volulme settings for the modem speaker. The XP drivers only give you 'on' or 'off'.

Wookiee, is it only making the noise when it initially connects? Or is it lasting the whole time?

If it's only when it connects, you can turn the modem volume down within Windows. Not sure how to do it under XP, but in 98 if you go Control Panel -> Modems -> Properties or something like that, you should be able to turn the speaker off in there.

I'll giveit another go when I get home tonight. The modem works; I just can't stand that screeching. I could always turn the speaker off, but then I don't know if it's connecting properly (you know - you get to 'understand' the modem after a while, and know if something is wrong before Windows tells you...)

All I know is... the drivers that Freeola supplied via the link worked first time, however I installed them.

But I'll have a tweak tonight (oo-er). Thanks for the suggestions.

mmmmmmmmmm

give me a few details, like the driver that is installed as the moedem and the driver file name that you downloaded,

i know this works i have done it loads of times

there is probably some samll thing you are doing wrong, try removing all traces of isntalled modem then reinstalling it.

i know that way definately works, unless you have a differant model number, which would be a 4 digit number begining with 3 on your modem, but i am absolutly positive that the way i have said works fine, make sure you are not using the BEST DATA DATA FAX drivers.

Yep, that is how I installed them. Problem still exists, though.

The drivers from puretek DO work it is just you have to install them manually, just in case i will show you how

First unzip the puretek drivers to a folder (i.e modem drivers)

now, go to
START\CONTROL PANEL\SYSTEM

HARDWARE TAB then click DEVICE MANAGER.

expand MODEMS and you will notice that the modem that winxp has decided to install is BEST DATA DATA FAX MODEM, as you probably know this is the wrong modem what you have to do is.

double click BEST DATA DATA FAX MODEM which will ope the properties window now go to DRIVER tab and choose UPDATE DRIVER now select INSTALL FORM A LIST OR A SPECIFIC LOCATION (ADVANCED), press NEXT, now select DON'T SEARCH I WILL CHOOSE THE DRIVER TO INSTALL press next no choose the driver, GENERIC SOFT56 DATA FAX VOICE SPEAKERPHONE MODEM (or something along those lines, no click NEXT and this will install correct drivers for your modem and solve the contant modulating/demodulating sound of your modem.

if by any chance it doesnt then if you go to,

START\CONTROL PANEL\PHONE AND MODEM OPTIONS then go to MODEMS tab and highlight your newly installed modem, right click and choose properties and you should be able to shut your modem up from there.

I am sure this will work.
