During the following post we will decide who is the greatest games character ever. We will have close up interviews with forum members including Regulars and Notables we begin the debate with ‘The case for Mario’
Kyz22 walks onscreen " Hello I’m Kyz22 and I’m here to show you the case for Mario. Mario is a true veteran of gaming he has been on our consoles since the old days, you remember back when Michael Jackson was still black and the new fangled idea of gaming was just beginning to take over the world. Yes those were the days and one of the consoles which shaped the destiny of gaming was the NES Nintendo’s first BIG console (and I don’t mean Xbox size I mean popular) and even from these meagre beginnings Mario was entertaining us with his odd use of the sentence ‘Itsa Me Mariooo’ his first starring role was this very console (The NES for those that haven’t been listening-I’m looking at you Gerrid)in Super Mario Bro.’s it was released in the October of 1985 on the ominous day Friday the 13th
and Bowser, king of the Koopas, has invaded the Mushroom Kingdom, and turned all the citizens to stone! The only one who can break the spell, Princess Toadstool, has been locked away in Bowser's castle. Enormous fun was had by all in this Nintendo classic and Mario mile-stone over the years Mario continued to produce this high quality of games showing most prominently in Mario Bro.’s and Super Mario Bro.’s 2 and 3 and a few spin off’s such as Dr Mario and Mario is Missing but even now 17 years on Mario’s Italian Charm is still seducing the nation and with the recent success of Super Mario Sunshine on Nintendo Gamecube and a bit longer ago the massive hit Super Mario 64 it seems Mario will be grabbing coins for many years to come. Mario is the right choice. Vote Mario"

DK first hit our arcades in 1981 as the ‘Bad Boy of gaming’ he had captured Mario’s girlfriend and insisted on throwing barrels at Mario as he attempted to free his lovely girl. The Game was obviously a huge success [Welsh Miyamoto looks puzzled] but who would have known that 21 years on DK would still hold the hearts of many in his oversized hands. On November the 22nd 1999 Donkey Kong (with a little help from Rare) released Donkey Kong 64 this was undisputedly a massive hit and with the gaming punters and was like all round (with the exception of the exceptionally annoying theme song/rap) Yes Old Donkey Kong and crew are a motley bunch but they really are games for the whole family, Unlike Mario whose stealing of coins and recent vandalism of the idyllic ‘Isle Delphino’. Donkey Kong is the right choice for you and your family."

Rabbit<>K walks on screen tripping over the directors chair as he goes "Oh Damn it! Ahem uh sorru I’m Rabbit<>K and I’m here to represent Sonic The Hedgehog. I can remember back when I was but a JAT getting ‘Sonic’ For my ‘Megadrive’ oh lordy how I loved this game; racing down tunnels catching coins those were the days. Sonic gets his name from his ‘Supersonic’ speed (a common attribute I’m sure in hedgehogs) he is also famous for his Spiky Blue hair and who could for get his sidekicks ‘Tails’, ‘Knuckles’ and the feisty ‘Amy’ of course like all Gaming heroes Sonic has had his ups and downs the recent Framing by the evil ‘Shadow’ in Sonic Battle (available now on nintendo Gamecube) and the downfall of Sega’s ‘Dreamcast’ some experts would have predicted the end for our spiky hared friend, but no Sonic’s True resilient nature pulled him through this rough patch and he was soon taking over The Gameboy with the games ‘Sonic advance’ and ‘Sonic advance 2’ which were among the most successful games in his career and now with the graphical splendour that is ‘Sonic adventure battle 2’ taking all ‘Ninty’s’ by storm. Sonic is the right choice no matter what console you have."

She’s only a woman (now if it was a bloke…) anyway Lara first fired up men’s hearts (and other parts) in 1996 with Tomb Raider The game soon became infamous with it’s alleged ‘nude code’ and the added fun of stuffing the butler in the freezer, Catching on to the enormous popularity of Tomb Raider ‘Eidos’ soon released Tomb Raiders 2,3, the last revelation and chronicles and now with the imminent release of ‘Angel of darkness’ for Playstation 2 she is making her first step onto a ‘next Gen’ console and it will undoubtedly be a huge success. Pick Lara Croft and you will surely not be wrong."

The original arcade giant PAC MAN has appeared in many manifestations over the years but the great origin of the game is back in the arcade years. He was simply a ball with a ‘mouth’ collecting dots on his way but always being careful of the ‘ghosts’ which on impact would kill. The sheer simplicity of this game was astounding and even now 22 years on he can amuse even the most demanding gamer"

Sonic gets his name from his ‘Supersonic’ speed (a common attribute I’m sure in hedgehogs) he is also famous for his Spiky Blue hair and who could for get his sidekicks ‘Tails’, ‘Knuckles’ and the feisty ‘Amy’ of course like all Gaming heroes Sonic has had his ups and downs the recent Framing by the evil ‘Shadow’ in Sonic Battle (available now on nintendo Gamecube) and the downfall of Sega’s ‘Dreamcast’ some experts would have predicted the end for our spiky hared friend, but no Sonic’s True resilient nature pulled him through this rough patch and he was soon taking over The Gameboy with the games ‘Sonic advance’ and ‘Sonic advance 2’ which were among the most successful games in his career and now with the graphical splendour that is ‘Sonic adventure battle 2’ taking all ‘Ninty’s’ by storm. Sonic is the right choice no matter what console you have."
