OK,I have my PS2 in my room and its on a TV and Video combi. Whenever I play DVD's the colours are funny. I get a lot of distortion and the sound is fuzzy. Although I have some DVD's that work, but most dont. I have tryed it on another TV and it worked fine. I also used another type of connection on my TV, becuase I use the scart one now. Any suggestions?

Ah well. It works at the moment.

If, when I go move back home in a few months and use my parents telly, it goes green screen, then I'll just buy DVD Region X.

At the moment it works fine, so I'm not too bothered.

It *could* be that it is a proper RGB SCART cable, but the SCART socket on the TV/Video combi is not fully configured for RGB. Some TV's have that.

For example, my WEGA has two SCART inputs, but only AV1 supports RGB input. Only high-end TV's have all SCART sockets fully functional.

YH, It cant be a proper RGB scart becasue the screen should have been Green when you played DVDs. There isnt an actual way of playing DVDs on a PS2 with an RGB signal without the green screen is there? DVD region X only does it by disabling the RGB signal...

Well, I've just bought a proper SCART lead, for 4 quid ( I won't say where from), and it works fine with my TV/VCR combo thing.

Also, I had a quick test with one of my DVD's, and ot played fine, no scrambling, no green screen or anything. That is only one DVD though, but I would have thought any anti-piract type stuff would have affected all DVD's.

It looks good so far!

You can get a decent Macrovision descrambler for about £30-40 in shops, but reasonably cheaper on auctions. It's amazing how many people sell them on there, and how many bids they get. And I thought I was the only one...

Recording DVD's from a PC DVD player onto a tape eliminates Macrovision and the need for a descrambler, but it leaves a horrible black margin around.

Down with Marcovision!!!

I don't *think* it will defeat MacroVision - but then I don't think PS2 has MacroVision anyway. MacroVision is an anti-piracy software system built in to most DVD players (and also on pre-recorded VHS tapes) - if PS2 supported it, Sony wouldn't have needed to disable RGB playback of DVD-Video.

maybe its something to do with it being a tv and video combo.

YH - if if is indeed MacroVision protection that ash_davie2k is experiencing, then you may well have the same problem. Your DC will not have the same problem, even with an RGB cable, simply because it does not play DVD's and therefore has no MacroVision protection system.

Appriciated, but I know that the telly can handle true RGB SCART, as my DC does it.

What I want to know is, will DVD Region X overcome the Macrovision? Or does it just eradicate the Green Screen thing?

I'm too sure here, but a little fiddling with the leads and possibly checking the settings of the PS2/TV could possibly irridicate the problem. I'm sorry I can't help further, but I'm sure that the combined knowledge/advice in this topic should aid you. Some people say that the PS2 DVD playback is toilet, but from far away (in an SR store with some staff member watching Shrek :D), I couldn't tell the difference between it and that of a normal DVD player.

Advice: Get a Medion DVD player from Special Reserve for less than £149.99. I have one, and they rule! :0)

I dont think its due to the Macro thing. As people who pirate videos from copying them to DVD would use RGB. RGB has been disabled, to stop copying. So I doubt it is this. Are you actually using a PS2 connected to a TV. Or is there a VCR connected up aswell. Try it with a TV and PS2 connected, dont even have the TV aerial in.
