One of the things that are so different about Nintendo is their advertisement strategy, granted Pokémon was advertised so well, the Sky One cartoon that was released almost a year before the game create a huge amount of hype for it. But lets face it Nintendo may not of quite beaten Microsoft, but they sold very well and got very close to the giant computer company, but only advertised a fraction of much! Same with the UK, I can see Microsoft doing well but comparing the two launches I don’t honestly believe there would be much different to Nintendo. Yet Nintendo are spending £100 million on European advertisement, a lot I know but compare this to Microsoft’s £500 million and you will see doing about as well as Microsoft yet spending only one fifth of Microsoft’s budget on advertisement something “magical” is going on here. Or is it? Nintendo are a family company, parents believe Nintendo are a safe company and so advertisement or not a Nintendo product has always been seen as safe. Also Nintendo have been around a VERY long time and so have built up a massive fan base and so even if they do no Advertisement they can’t really fail can they?
Now why are they the greatest games developer ever, why are their games miles in font of the entire competition, what is that special something each game possesses, you know that thing that makes you know this is a Nintendo game. Some call it the Nintendo magic but no, I’m not going to have it. I won’t believe it is the work of witchcraft that makes a fat, dungaree wearing, Italian plumber one of the best characters of all time. I could put it down to the hugely talented team of workers Nintendo have, lets face it Shiguru Miyamoto is god but also he is only a small cog in the workings. Nintendo have so many talented designers, from Shiguru to Satoshi, a hugely talented team, Nintendo won’t settle for anything but the best. The proof of this, Metroid Prime, it probably was a very good game but it isn’t of Nintendo’s standards and if it isn’t up to scratch it doesn’t get in. Look at Left Field; they made Excitebike on the N64, good right? Wrong, yeah it was good but not of Nintendo standard, Rare’s Jet Force Gemini was also not to Nintendo standard and Nintendo were very disappointed, in fact Left Field’s second party ties have been severed as Nintendo don’t think they are good enough.
Delaying the game may account for the games brilliance, whilst some developers may skimp on graphics, or gameplay or length to get a game out sooner, Nintendo meanwhile don’t if it isn’t going to be done in time then oh well it won’t be done in time. Some recent Nintendo games are getting length cut in order to get them out sooner like Pikmin, yet this game is still reeking in Nintendo awesomeness (don’t ask) so what is it? Maybe it has something to do with Nintendo knowing how to make a game on their own system, lets face it as good as Capcom, Namco and Acclaim are, they don’t quite know how to develop on the Gamecube quiet as good as Nintendo. Their head designer designed the controller and the fact that his games controls are near perfect it is obvious he designed it with his games at the back of his mind. The sound chip was produced by Factor Five (Rogue Leader developers) and when you hear the in game sound of Rogue Leader you will realise that only Factor Five know how to use it to its fullest! Maybe it is all of these reasons that Nintendo games turn out so good.
So after that scientific overview many will come away from this topic and think so that is why Nintendo are so good. But no matter how I try and convince myself of the above, when I talk to the rock folk of Goron Mountain, when I blow up walls in Kooper Castle and when I beat Lance of the Elite Four I realize that these games are filled with magic, the brilliant designers have designed a real, living breathing world on the console they know best and that truly is magical. And that my friends, is the Nintendo difference.
Here’s to the Future.
Dringo.
If you had to sum up Nintendo in one word, what wold it be? Style, originality, creativity- there are so many to pick from. But I'd have to say that "revolution" is what sums Nintendo and the Nintendo difference up best.
Since Nintendo have been making games the one characteristi that has always stood out has been their new ideas, ingenious new concepts and unbelievable perfectionist approach to making games.
But that is true of so many companies- Sega, Namco and all the rest come out with massive titles that completely redefine gaming. The difference with Nintendo though is that they come out with revolutionary games all the time.
Take the N64. Although it may only have launched with one game, Mario 64, the game pushed back the frontiers of gaming. It was the first 3D game to actually use 3D gameplay, not simply copying the style of old 2D games. To this day it sets the standard for all 3D platformers, and it's influence appears everywhere. Yet it has never been beaten- a testimony to Nintendo's perfectionism.
Then, a couple of years later Nintendo do the impossible and make a better game- Zelda! Not only does this make 3D gaming, that Nintendo had perfected, even more perfect with the addition of the lock-on camera system, but the game was simply epic. The vastness of Hyrule and the range of tasks has made it be voted "Best Game Ever" time and time again.
And this trend continues right into the past. On the SNES the Mario series was ground-breaking, consisting of the most diverse and far ranging gaming techniques seen at the time. Mario Kart is still an undeniable classic, and one of the greatest multiplayer games even today (Dispite it only supporting 2 players).
This is what make Nintendo special. As on designer said, out of all the games companies in the world, they probably have the greatest game to greatest game ratio of all time. And it sees no sign of stopping now!

BIG difference.. ;-D
Anyway Dringo, the real point is that you hear the " The Nintendo Difference" slogan everywhere.
Eye catching topics need a more unusual title.
I still read it though, even if I didn't reply...
And they are two completley different topics why does that stop
> you reading it.
Never said i didnt read it...I read quite a lot of stuff without replying. You know more about Nintendo than all of us, so there aint much point in replying to a topic like this.
> yes, perhaps a title that we don't see in this forum every three days or so ;
