I'm right in assuming any GBA will play any cart aren't I? Or have Nintendo decided to start adding regional lockdown to their handheld systems as well?
Reason I ask is that I'm buying a GBA as a gift for a family member's christmas present, and they've tested a few of the games via an emulator, telling me which ones they like out of them - I'm going to get two of those. Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland was one of the games, but it hasn't been released in the UK yet, and I've found a stockist in the USA who can ship it to arrive within 2-3days; I just want to make absolutely sure that it will play on a UK system.
The faster I get a response the better, cheers for any help ;)

The GBA, no matter where it is bought from, will play any Cart.
I got mine from Lik-Sang from Hong Kong just because I wanted it before everyone else. I don't usually import stuff as I know games won't work on it etc but I got the GBA imported because I knew I could use PAL games.

Handheld systems usually don't have them due to the fact they don't use a TV system for display, but they certainly can put a regional lockdown chip in them, they did it with the NES, SNES and N64; which while they weren't handheld, they were cart based systems.
I have a fair idea that they will indeed play any game, but I need a definite answer, as I'm not risking buying a game that's unplayable -especially not when it's to be given as a christmas present.

they will,i dont think they can but a lockout on the existing GBA becuase the systems themselves are multiregion with no region specific settings i think, but anyway currently you can play game bought anywhere on your GBA
