It rocks.

The "Revolution" mode (story mode) is hard, you have to go places and blow stuff up/collect stuff/protect people.

The "Kaos" mode rules all.
2:30 to commit as much wanton destruction as you can.
There are points deducted for civilian death, but what can you do when you're surrounded by 15 government agents intent on smashing u wiv their sticks?

You get the dude in the hawain shirt and the woman to start with, no little fat gangsta until you complete the Mall level in Revolution mode.
I've been playing the Revolution mode for...just over 3hrs and I'm only 50% through the missions on the 1st "Mall" level.
There are 5 levels (I think), this game will last an age.

Graphics are outstanding, up to 60 people charging about at once onscreen and not a single bit of slowdown.
Weapons I've used so far include M16, Uzi, Flamethrower, Mini-Gun, pistol (rubbish), taser (funny), molotov cocktail and bins.
Smash windows to earn more points, and if you use a rocket launcher on a crowd, you can pick up bits of the corpses and use the soggy ends to smash other people.

Yes this is a violent game.
But it's funny violence. Cartoony violence you can't take seriously.
And maybe the notion of going postal in a shopping mall is dubious, but I defy anyone to not turn and face 20 soldiers armed with a mini-gun and not laugh as you wipe them all out and about 14 bystanders.

If you're stupid or easily offended, go play Nintendo games.
If you are normal/depraved, then the idea of gunning down 30 pedestrians will make you laugh madly and charge about looking for more ammo.

Anyway, someone running past with a TV held over their head is not innocent and deserves everything you throw at him.
And in him.
And on him.

And when they're on the floor?
Stomp repeatedly on their heads.
Go on,you know you want to.

Don't think this is GTA3 or you'll cry and bleat about it being "shallow" or "repetitive".
Think of it like fully immersive 3D Streets of Rage and you'll play it for 5hrs straight.

State of Emergency is excellent stuff.
And expect *plenty* of terribly worthy GAD attempting posts discussing violence in games and "Oo how terrible it can be".
Leave these games to those of us that can laugh as we smash a fat bloke with a bin before kneeling on his blubbery chest and b****-slapping him, even though he's dead already.

Because it's funny.

There is a question i must ask you now, is it better or worse than GTA3?? GTA3 is a top notch game, to say the least and it would be a challenge for Rockstar to top such a game.

What i have seen of this game looks, how can i put this, amazing. Ok i have not seen much to do with this game but that does effect my judgement at all. I saw an preview/review of it on the game network channel (ahem) and that previewreview made me want to buy it, ok i haven't got round to that yet but i will soon enough.

To tell the truth i really don't know much about this game, but i think you are a villian and you have to do all these heists and stuff, am I right?? Ok this may not sound like the most exciting of things, actually yeah it does, it is another original title for all to enjoy. Come on its got:

1 - Excitment
2 - Blood and Guts
3 - Gameplay
4 - ummmmm everything you want in a game.

I'm getting all this from some 5 minute Review/preview that i have seen on T.V. so it must be good.

See Finally the PS2 is getting games that it is worthy of, games which show it's true potential, games which everyone can enjoy, at anytime. State of emergency is not just another great game out, it is a prospect for the future of the gaming world, and with more prospects like this to come then the future seems grand.

Now who doubted the PS2 again?? I'm certainly glad I never, because it is a console to be proud of.

Ciao

Is this the fat little gansta guy from the cover? I might get the game just for him, because he's fat. And stuff.

I'm not sure about this one. PSM2 gave it 75, and it's apparently very short?

I can't say if this is "better" than GTA3, because they're completely different games.
The closest comparison is this is an entire game of the bits in GTA3 when you get out the car and attack pedestrians.

Wookiee, they said it was "short"?
Are they mental?
Like I said, 3hrs playing the "Revolution" (story mode) and I'm only 50% through the 1st level of 4/5.
And there's the "Kaos" mode, where you just have to amass points to unlock other levels and characters.

And there's a mode called "Last Clone Standing"

It's mindless rampage action. No cutscenes to drag you out of the game, no stupid end of level bosses.
Just the chance to take on 20 cops at once and come out alive armed with someone's head.

Now if that sounds like your sort of game, get it.
It's NOT GTA3.
It's Streets of Rage/Smash TV/Barbarian/Renegade x 100.

I like it a lot, I have in-depth story-driven games when I want those.
This is a chance to turn it on and smash up buildings and attack crowds of people.
And you can unlock that fat gangsta bloke.

Get this or you're a big girl that plays games and says "Oo look at the pretty colours"

Just look at the cover.
A fat gangsta throwing Crip signs.

You know it makes sense.

The first few paragraphs of this thread made me think of Fight Club's Project Mayhem.
