Capcom Japan has made an official announcement that Resident Evil will only come to GameCube. Reason for this are the recent rumors that staid that Resident Evil would also come to other platforms.

Here's what the statement reads:

"A rumor that Biohazard (Overseas name: Resident Evil) may be supplied to platforms other than Nintendo GameCube has started on overseas web sites recently. This has no basis and is not true at all. Biohazard, Biohazard 0, Biohazard 2, Biohazard 3 - Last Escape, Biohazard Code :Veronica Complete and Biohazard 4 are due to be put on the market for Nintendo GameCube exclusively as we announced on September 13th, last year. Our plans have not changed"

So too bad for all you X-Box or PS2 fans, but you won't see resident Evil on your system.

What?!?!? There is a huge topic in FOG prime on this!

Anyway, here are my points:

Resident Evil is NOT GC exclusive. The reason:

*Resident Evil: Online has JUST (2 days ago) been announced on the PS2

*RE2, 3 and Code Veronica have appeared on other consoles.

*RE1 has appeared on the PSX and Saturn. Although the GC is getting an "update" (whatever that means), it has still appeared on other consoles.

*Resident Evil Gun Surviver 1 and 2 are PS exclusives

*Capcom said that Code Veronica was a Dreamcast exclusive and then go and make it for the PS2 and GC!

What does this mean? Well:
1) Capcom cannot be trusted
2) The GC only actually has 2 "excluve" RE games- 0 and 4. And seeing as they've pulled out of exclusive games in the past, this could be no different.

That makes, if I'm right, your initals "MACS".

Something a bit odd about that.

Ah.

"Always Correct" is my middle name. It's not hyphenated, but it's still counted as just the one middle name because the space still generates a character on my Deed Poll.

Does this mean that Sonyphiles can now use the 'all you get are sequels' argument against Nintys?

In some ways, the RE series going to Gamecube is a good thing, because it allows many other gamers to enjoy what is considered to be the original genre defining shock horror game.

The only real drawback is that genre defining also usually means 'dated' and you'll have to wait a bit to get your hands on Silent Hill 2, Devil May Cry et. al. which have pushed the boundaries quite nicely this year. Although the RE games are good, many consider them to be retro in that very few gamers still play them.

It's a bit like releasing GoldenEye on the PS2 when they've already got James Bond: Agent Under Fire.
