Sony have seen fit to release Gran Turismo Next, formerly known as Gran Turismo Concept, in Europe. GTN is a stripped down version of GT3, featuring just the arcade mode of the game, plus all-new concept cars and spanking new models hot off the production line. The game features such
bizarre vehicles as the Sony/Toyota Pod Car, which changes colour depending on your mood. Mental as anything."
Who do they think they are? I mean, GT3 was bad enough - that was just GT2 with extra things. This is a downgrade on GT3! OK, it has a few more cars - thats the sort of thing you'd expect to download a free add-on for on a PC game. But no, sony have the cheek to release GT3 with bits TAKEN OUT!
does anyone else think this is ludicrous, or is it just me?
(Quote taken from News on the Upwire)
I just think that there is a lot of unfair criticism aimed at Sony, when all other companies in the games industry do exactly the same type of things.
I guess you're right.. and I'm fed up with arguing ;)
I think it is because that sony (PSOne and PS2) has a much larger catalogue of games than others. Therefore, it is bound to have more sequels than other consoles - that is why Sony seems to receive the harshest beating :D
I only took this example (and yes you're right (again) it should have been generalised) because of personal tastes. GT i thought was OK, but after GT v1.1, and GTv1.2 (as I refer to them!) I lost all interest in the games, and developed a serious hate for the series.
And anyway, what would these forums be without arguments, personal taste and being biast? :D
This wasnt desinged for the general gaming public, it wasnt even going to be released outside of Japan at first.
Ye, i wont be buying it becasue I already own GT3 and the only good thing about it is GT mode. Without GT mode it is just a normal racer...

No. But I bet you didn't post on here and kick up a stink about them either!

That's fair enough. In general I'd agree with you, but I just don't think it right that this particular product is the *only* one you mentioned. Your thoughts and comments should be generalised and not aimed specifically at one such product.

No, but if I keep it up long enough they might ask me to be!
Anyway, this has nothing to do with Sony - it is Polyphony Digital who had created the game (and it was at the request of the organisers of the Tokyo Motor Show) - Sony are publishers only - they do not own Polyphony.

Isn't this a big fuss over nothing? It's just like any game, if you want it buy it if you dont, dont.
Simple as
well, i guess, but its just a recent example of the ongoing add-ons/sequel debate. I wanted to see what people thought of it.
GT3 is gonna down to £20 soon as well, so with GT Next coming out for £20 as well it dont really matter.
apart from the fact that GT next is GT3 with more cars, but less options and modes.
It's no different to the add-on packs for games like Roller Coaster Tycoon etc. that PC developers charge you for, when they could make them downloadable from the net!

I think the whole idea of an expansion pack containing a few extra cars/tracks/guns is obscene!
I also disagree with sequels being made on the same console - reviving it from a previous format is reasonable!
And anyway Wookie, do you work for Sony or something, as the official censor, supressing any bad-mouhing? ;)
I wouldn't want to go postal on your ass.
Rock on PS2!

It's a 'bonus' for those fans of the game who wish to buy it - nothing more, nothing less. Those that want it will buy it, those that don't won't. It's being released simply because people asked for it. It's no skin off your nose, it's not costing you anything, so I don't see why you should have such a problem with it!
