5 of my mates and I are planning a LAN party to take place very soon but have a small query. We're all using Windows, obviously, but different versions of Windows. While I'm using XP, 2 are using 98 and 3 are using ME. Will this matter??
Also, if one person is using a 10mb/s card while the rest are using 10/100 cards on a 10/100 network, will we all be dragged down to 10megs?

You'll be fine as long as you can sort the networking out, configuring windows is always the hardest part - rule #1 of a LAN party, there will always be someone who has come without setting windows up and doesn't know what to do. Be prepared for that..

I thinm Netgears top of the range of networking kit, don't go to PCworld, might be cheaper online. SR have some good prices for network cards: http://ukpc.net + free postage, always a good thing

Rito, thanks. I don't expect to pay any more than £20 for the one for my PC when I pop down to my local PC World. Any makes I should stay clear of? In my experience, NetGear has always been pretty reliable kit.

As long as you know how to set up a network then it should be o.k on those operating systems, and for the one's with only 10mbps card as long as you are all going into a hub (which you will have to) then that boosts the signal to 100 mbps for everyone else, but i suggest everyone get a 10/100 lan card they arent expensive.
