5 of my mates and I are planning a LAN party to take place very soon but have a small query. We're all using Windows, obviously, but different versions of Windows. While I'm using XP, 2 are using 98 and 3 are using ME. Will this matter??
Also, if one person is using a 10mb/s card while the rest are using 10/100 cards on a 10/100 network, will we all be dragged down to 10megs?

You know what I mean, rj45 hubs, they send each data packet to every pc connected...fine if you only have a few, but the network gets cluttered with a lot of boxen.

Unless two people have got the same IP address you /really/ shouldn't be having packet collisions..

I could only envisage that happening if you were manually configuring addresses and someone couldn't read a big "10.0.10.17" stuck to the side of their box, or you had two DHCP servers running. Sigh.
