I personally would have loved a more realistic Zelda look, naturally. But you really have to look at where the series heart has always been for the most part. It has always been a little 'Cartooney' and in some cases always had a comedic theme here and there.
It is only right in that case for Miyamoto to retain what has always made the series successful and to develop it further.
Going with a Cell Shaded look will more than likely have people going weak in the knees at the upcoming showing and playing at E3.
When I heard too, that Link will have his eyes changed, it really didn't surprise me at all, Im a little optimistic if that is all that will be changed with the character.
With the first showing, that was one of the things that put me off the new look, for so long throughout the Saga I have been used to seeing the character sporting Blue Eyes, it wouldn't surprise me either if we see a totally different look to Link, to what we witnessed with the first showing of the title. Perhaps we will see him more taller, rather than appearing a little squat? Perhaps we will see him more in line to the N64 incarnations?
And where will the story fall in this time? Will it be a continuation from the N64 games? (Considering the N64 titles where the prequels to all others)
It has got many talking, not just of how the story will progress mind you, but of how it is a needle in the eye for all those who where up in arms about the idea of Cell-Shading, despite them never playing it.
And for that im glad, im glad Nintendo retained the look that they where intent from doing from the onset. But what the critics should remember, is that Nintendo has been noted and known to have taken all criticism on-board. Perhaps that was their reasoning in the eye change for the lead character of Link, maybe will see a mixture of both Realistic and Cell shaded to keep both parties happy-With Miyamoto hinting of the eyes being changed- do you really believe that is all that has been done?
I have great confidence in the man, never throughout my life of playing his games have I been left disappointed. There is a great weight on his shoulders with this title and I don't think he is out for the ruination of the series.
But will many be left saddened when they finally play it or see it running?.
I don't think so.
Here's to E3 to find out.
am I the only one who is not bothered how Zelda looks? All I'm bothered about, is the great graphics
aarghhh... pop
in a fit of illogic, dr duck's head explodes : )
I think we should all give the toon cell-shading thing a chance, as it could be better than we expect!
I've seen a character ending on Tekken 3, and it looks like this cell-shading thing, and it also looks good in only 32-bit!! Imagine it in 128-bit....
It could be good, and could help the movement and actions of Link during the adventure, which should be much bigger.
With this Disney-style look, it could lead to the possibillity of a Zelda film (at last!)!!
And if it does go down as well as I hope, it could lead to bigger things for the develpment of the Zelda series!
Changing the look of the game keeps zelda fresh, i think it's pretty important to keep offering something new like that.
And going ever so slightly off the topic....
The new Mario looks swell, I just saw the latest screens at Planetgamecube.com
It however- seems to have stuck to its own look(From N64) and looks great in the process.
On the Nintendo Entertainment System we saw Zelda with two looks in one game. A rather boring birdseye view, nothing special to look at and a 2D platform view, which for the NES was extemely detailed.
On the SNES classic, A Link to the Past, my favourite Zelda game, we saw another Birdseye view, but this time more detailed it made the game easy to play. You could see your foe around the corner, even if they could see you. After this, the birdseye view became very popular in all Zelda games, and other games.
Then we saw Ocarina of Time, beautiful graphics in a third person view point, it worked very well and was passed onto to its younger brother, Majora's Mask.
Now we come to the future, Cell Shading, i'm sure this will be passed onto another Zelda game aswell. Cell Shading is the future of Zelda, which will most probably change again, whether it's to a first person view point, going through worlds like an FPS. Zelda is an ever evolving game. Personally i can't wait to see and play the cell Shaded Zelda and the others to come.
Nice post

But after a year of anticipating this Gamecube, I just want to play the damn thing.
But the fact of the matter is that Zelda and Mario will be playable at the show. For the first time ever we will have hands on reports about the games.
And more importantly of all, we will eventually see how the games have turned out: How Link will look and even how much Mature Mario will look.
