i wanted to bea games programmer. Now i know some of you do this, i think well as you have to do a degree and all the mumbo jumbo do you have to know any programming skills before you go to uni? Or can you just trun up in with a notebook?

You could go to uni (if you get the grades) and do something like Computer science. This will teach you all the basics and more for programming etc. Some places do games programming course which will teach you all you need to get into games programming.
But games programmers don't get paid well, not compared to programmers with similar skills.

I am doing a computer science degree at uni, no idea what kind of job I want or will get.

I would advise you, if you are interested in this. To learn some of the basics of programming. Learn C and C++ first and once you have the knowledge move on to more advance stuff and assembly language. Then you will be sorted.

That means that you need to go to college for two years doing them two courses. 13 hours a week, do the top one first year followed by bottom in the second. Understand my drift? How old are you? If you are 16, I suggest you visit your local college's website to look at the courses similar to the ones above.

C++ is a programme for making games. And yes most of the time it is essential. You can just go down to the bookshop and pick-up a copy of C++ for dummies (or equivalent) and just teach it to yourself. That's how I learnt HTML - well some HTML.
