On paper the x-box is a lot more powerful than the ps2, but i think that the up and coming games that are to be released on the ps2 are enough to make nybody think twice about purchasing an x-box.
Wreckless which was a very anticipated x-box title has just been recently released and it scored a low 67% which isn't good for level we expected. The only x-box game to live up to the hype so far is Halo, Halo is a futuristic shooter that has captured the imagination of the gaming world but it isn't enough to make people go and buy an x-box alone on the facts that it is ground-breaking.
The x-box can deliver the graphics and sound but the gameplay of the launch titles hasen't matched to what the gaming public were expecting. Microsoft are best left designing software for computers and they should leave the consoles to the might of Sony and the not so might of Nintendo.
Sony ever since the release of the Playstation 1 have ruled the gaming world and taken us one step closer to our ideal gaming world, games like Tomb-Raider, Tekken and Metal Gear Solid just to list a few have taken gaming into the 21st century.
The ps2 isn't listed as powerful as the x-box but the games that sony produce and other top gaming companies for the ps2 seem to rule the gaming market. Why don't Namco release Tekken 4 for the x-box? They know that the x-box will not sell as many copies as the ps2 because Sony have built respect between themselves and their customers. Nintendo tried to break into the chain of the Sony boom by releasing The N-64, but as we all know, it was a disaster bar a few top titles.
The ps2 can match the x-box on graphics, sound and gameplay even though the x-box is deemed more powerful than the ps2. When the x-box is released in the U.K it won't have an impact. When the ps2 was released there was chaos as people wanted to buy it straight away as they knew that the quality that Sony delivers is far greater then any other company.
Sony are well known in the electrical business for their class and quality in the products they design, Sony know what the public want with electrical equipment whether it be a Wide-Screen TV or latest MP3 player.
X-box cannot compeat with Sony from any corner, even on the x-box' first appearence there was a huge prolem and Bill Gates was left on stage with a boffed console and a dissappointed gaming public.
All of the people who I have spoken to agree that the x-box cannot match the might of the ps2, most of my friends got ps2' for christmas and they are all getting one for the release of Metal Gear Solid 2 which is sure to kill off the x-box which is launched a couple of weeks later.
Microsoft are respected for what they do, over priced pc equipment but at least it is quality, but they obviously haven't done any market reaserch with the price of the x-box, £300 without a game, they must be stupid, who in the right mind is going to shell out so much on a console that requires a new house to for storage space.
Now the ps2 is at a reasonable price and with yet another promised price-cut by Sony it is sure to conquer the not yet U.K appeared Microsoft X-box!
Which console do you beleive will win this ever entertaining was, are you with me on this one or do you think that the X-box is a dark horse that will make me eat my words and get one for this coming christmas.
Thankyou for reading and please give me your views.

At this point im going to have to ask you to shut up im afraid, Nintendo consoles are not for babys or kids, they just have a more platform based offering of games, and these games are very fun to play. Adults can enjoy these games as much as 5 year olds, myself im 16 and i still love to play mario. Also nintendo consoles have other 'adult' games too such as Turok, 007 games, Perfect dark and many more.
> Yes you might say Nintendo are 'not cool' because of their 'non violent' games
> - honestly - HAVE NOT ONE OF YOU PLAYED TUROK, GOLDENYE,
Yes I have I own a N64 and have Turok and Goldeneye.
When I said Sony was considered "Cool" I wasnt meaning it as they have violent games. Ever since day one Sony have gone for a "Cool" image. They had Wipeout with all its fast racing action and pumping sound track. They advertised to be cool. They sponsered all the different extreme sports like Skateboarding e.t.c. They wanted to make gaming cool and appeal to the High School Jocks as it were, and not just to the geeks who were already into gaming.
Sony have pretty much succeeded in doing this as even all the popular people at school would talk about PS1 and video games when I was a high school. Now alot more casual gamers who never had played on a video game where drawn to Sony.
My friend who had been into gaming alittle when he was 8 has now turned into a PS1 owning gaming fan. He went to Uni and all his mates there played on the PS1 and N64. He use to always tease me on how video games were rubbish, but now he owns a PS1 and plays on that quite alot at Uni.
Anyway, enough of the 'non-violent' topic - I should not have brought it up. Nintendo have this low price not only to attract new 'casual gamers' but also to show that they mean you to play games. The point of a games console is to play games, not to watch movies - I can do that anyway, and I want a cheaper console that provides equal and supereior games anyway.
I

Price drops I would have thought would be a welcome thing for many people. A teenager who wants a PS2, might have to save hard his/her £200, but if it drops to £160 they can then afford a new game. Also people arent willing to spend alot of money on a console. PS2 will be £160 soon and the X-Box is £300. £300 is quite alot of money to spend on a console. Nintendo may get alot more buyers because of its very cheap £160 price tag.
X-Box

I can see your reasoning here but the price drops Sony keep on doing are maybe going to damage the consoles reputation. Nothing stays "cool" for ever and the PS2 has so far been the only next gen console out there to buy. Where I work I've seen how the kind of buyer for the Playstation 2 has changed. To begin with it was people 18+ ish but now its parents buying them for much younger ages, plus a lot of buyers talk openly about the fact they will get the console chipped to run copied games. Now both these kind of buyers are not going to be the kind of people to be down their local Special Reserve on a games release day to buy it. This is obviously bad for retailers and the companies involved. The PSONE has a high amonut of titles aimed at a lower age groups and as such is no longer really considered "cool". The same goes for GTA3 - yes it attracted many new buyers, as will State Of Emergency, and yes it gets high sales but I think this is because it is appealing to many who wouldn't normally have considered buying a console. Many gamer's I know see titles like GTA3 as a crass attempt to gain free publicity and some notion of "cool" for the console. The more titles like this that Sony have and make a big fuss over the more they risk alienating the gamers who have stuck with them since the Playstation.
Xbox is launcing over here with no title thats remotely controversial, so is Gamecube, and both already have done in America, and both have enjoyed high sales. Sony's sales may keep rising but how do they know how many buyers are getting rid of their PS2 ?
So, sure, the Playstation 2 may be "cool" right now, but to who ? I think the "cool" tag is more to do with the difficulties that plague Sony's distribution of the console and the original high price tag. Price always pays a part in how a product is perceived, take mobile phones for instance; Nokia are the "cool" phone manufacturer because their phones are seen as being the best (which they are :) ) and they subsequently can charge the most for them. Xbox's price tag is going to mean that loads of people will not be able to immediatly afford it and this alone could uy it a cool status. As for Gamecube, I think the lack of DVD andthe low price tag, plus the launch games, may not be enough to appeal to those more used to GTA3 somehow.... :)
