True, nothing wrong with not liking a game at all. But to dislike or be bored by something like Madden can *only* mean that you either don't like or don't understand the rules of American football, or the sport itself.
There is no grey area with Madden - it *is* the sport in videogame form. It's not like FIFA where you can love football but think "well, this bit's too easy... and it doesn't include that..."
It's like chess - you can either learn the rules of the game and play it, or it's slow, boring and confuses the hell out of you - but only because you don't know what the heck's going on.
Ok people, all together now "HAHA, your smelly and you don't know anything about games !!! You loser !!!"
There's nothing wrong with not liking a game. It's just not his thing.
I own every single version of Madden, from the original on the Seag Megadrive, through to the PlayStation, and now 2001 and 2002 on my PS2. And every signle one of them has been great.
I've followed American football for more years than I care to remember, I've seen many many NFL teams play live, and I've played the sport myself for over five years. I think I'm in a pretty good position to know what american football games are worthwhile!
Granted, knowing the rules helps - but there's that nice new training mode now which teaches you the basics of offensive plays. It's not superbly difficult to pick up, and it's always good fun to play.
2002 is a vast improvement on 2001, in my own opinion the biggest improvement has been in the pass coverage on defense - it's actually realistic now. Also, when you've played Madden for as long as I have, it is a nice touch to see the team creator and Fantasy Draft back in there......
Will I buy 2003? More than likely. Would I recommend 2002 to every PS 2 owner out there? No way.
It's one of those games fans of the sport love, and thosewith a slight knowledge of the sport enjoy. But if you don't enjoy american football, then don't buy it.
If you're after a good, solid, playable version of the sport, then Madden NFL 2002 would be the best one to go for.
And on another note, the Rams may look strong next year but the year after they will become victims of their own success with the salary cap - Hakim will leave this year as a result of it. The Jags will just go from bad to worse as Boselli leaves for the Texans and Brunnell is traded to save cap room. The Patriots will have an average year next year, mainly becasue they surprised everyone this year with free-agents and they don't have enough superstars to put it together over the long haul.
Look for the Eagles, Packers, 49ers and Bears to push St Louis in the NFC next year. AFC? Can anyone say Steelers........
And I'm a Bears fan - after far too many years of appaling play, it was great to see us win the final NFC Central division title ever, but furstrating that we lost both Green Bay games, then bounced out in the first round of the playoffs. We'll be back next year, with a new QB (maybe Drew Bledsoe if we can afford his salary or Trent Dilder), a solid D, and a hunger for the playoffs again.
As for Miami.....as long as Jay Fiedler is under centre, get used to those early playoff exits......

I know the rules. I play it. I kill myself every Friday after school.
