Anyone know anything about this channel? It's a Sky channel (obviously) which supposedly gives you all the backstage info as well as the practise, qualifying and the race. And it cost £8 each race.

Now I'm a big fan of F1, but if I can watch qualifying and the race on ITV then I don't think I'll bother paying £8 thank-you very much...

Thoughts?

Supposedly, in the USA, they have more adverts than they do coverage of the race.

Thats funny, because...

Yes, this is true, but you didn't get the pre / post race analysis and stuff. I don't think I knew anything about Bernie Ecclestone until F1 got to ITV!

Yeh, if I had Sky that would be something that I would be willing to pay for, maybe 8 quid a race is a bit steep, 4 -5 quid would be more reasonable.

Apparently, in France, when they go to the ads they keep a little box-out of the race in the bottom left of the tv screen or something, so you can still see what is happening in the race. It would be good if ITV tried something like this too.

F1 is boring, i can not watch a whole grand prix race. IF i do watch any of the race is normally the start (as it is the most enjoyable part. Then about 2 hours later listen to the radio or look on text to see who has won.

I'm not knocking ITV for the coverage. I'm stating that I would pay to watch F1 because I can't stand the adverts. At least with the BBC, you got no adverts.

I still have the Belguim 1993 race on tape because it ruled. I would love to be able to watch what I like, watch the Friday practise sessions, watch the warm-up, see different parts of the track during the race.

I'm a big F1 fan and I can't bear to sit through 3 minutes of adverts. That's just me.

My sentiments exactly YH. I don't pay a penny to watch F1 coverage, so in terms of value for money, its great!

I think the ITV coverage is leagues ahead of what the BBC used to do, and if the Beeb ever get the broadcast rights back I will be interested to see what they do with them. If they just did exactly what they used to, I would begrudgingly start to pay Sky instead I think.

ITV don't show the qualifying for the Brazillian, US, or Canadian GP's live as it would be saturday night Prime Time, which is fine with me as I'm normally out at that time anyway.

I much prefer the ITV coverage.

On BBC they used to go over to Murray just before the race started, and go back to Grandstand or whatever straight after the champagne had been finished.

ITV do so much more. All the interviews, behind the scenes stuff. Remember when Martin did all that stuff with the Jordan team, going into details on the more technical side of things?

You'd never get that with BBC.

Yes, the adverts are annoying, but at most there's 4 breaks in the hour and a half race. They normally try and put them when it's quiet, but if you do miss anything they tell you about it.

I do agree that that ads are annoying, but I'm willing to accept them in return for all the other great stuff ITV do to make up for it.

I'm interested in that Digital + thing, but I don't have Sky. If I did I would sign up for it for one weekend to see what it's like.

I'm *really* into F1, and so would pay to watch all the behind the scenes type stuff that Digital + would show you. All the extra practice sessions and stuff from the Friday, and the morning warm ups on saturday and sunday.

However, until I have Sky, I'll quite happily stick with ITV, I think they're doing a great job.

Fine, that may be true, but I can't remember it happening too much... But if that is the best you can do to answer my post I think your broadside against ITV was unfounded.

And that is your choice, I would rather not pay, so I put up with the ads.

Come on, it is more like 15 - 20 mins, and they do wait for a lull in the excitment at least.

ITV show the race and qualifiying live, and the ITV race coverage is only marred by the adverts, which are a matter of personal taste, now you ave a choice. You can pay 8 quid a race if you like.

As far as I remember, ITV put the qualifying on live. They also replay some of the races that are run in ungodly hours, and to top it off, throw in the highlights later on at night.

ITV have some pretty good pre and post race shows, alright, I'd rather have Murray Walker than Jim Rosenthal doing that kind of thing, but you can't have everything eh? And never did the BBC ever have pre F1 build up and then post-race analysis to the extent that ITV do. ITV treat F1 the way they treat football, with lots of interviews and pundits with opinions. I don't remember the BBC making that effort.

At the end of the day I think ITV have made F1 more interesting for those who didn't get it before. If we could keep the ITV format but without the ads, it would be perfect. The BBC lost the F1 broadcast rights because they wouldn't spend enough for a top-level sport, and even if they had kept the rights, we wouldn't have had the coverage that ITV offers, for free.

BBC was good because I could sit and watch a race without an ad break every 5 minutes. Yeah, they did miss the start of qualifying occasionally, but their race coverage was excellent. The BBC would push everything out of the way to show the race and qualifying live. ITV will show some Saturday rubbish and stick the qualifying on some ungodly hour.
