When the European Human Rights Law becomes British Law next month, Article 10 - Freedom of expression, may mean that the BBC license fee/ Television License is unlawful on the basis that it infringes the rights of people to receive information freely. For years gamers have been frustrated that they need a TV license in order to play their Amigas, playstation, N64 or Dreamcast.
The TV license also discriminates against poorer people who may not have the money to pay for a TV license, Article 14 - Prohibition of discrimination, may now mean that I'll be able to use the internet through my Dreamcast for free.
Not to mention the obvious breach of privacy by the BBC in detecting TV's in private homes (see BBC/ TV licensing website see http://www.tv-l.co.uk/ )… Article 8 - Right to respect for private and family life, may make this illegal. Did you know the TV license detector can, I quote:

"Not only will we be able to see where the television is and what's being watched on it, we'll know on the spot whether it's licensed."

For a full list of your Human Rights see

http://conventions.coe.int/treaty/EN/Treaties/html/005.htm

Europe has finally done something good for a change!, now we finally have the right to be innocent until proven guilty! See the website, know your Human rights. A prisoner in Austria has already won a court case in Europe, and is now entitled to TV in his cell, and a Newspaper everyday. Should we have to pay to surf the internet on our Dreamcasts, play a video on our videorecorders or pay for the BBC when we only watch Sky sports. See the website, know your rights.. I dont know about that... seems to me that the people who are losing the most are often the most willing to spend more cash?

Besides, once the Pokemon craze is over... there will be something else to take its place...

True... but they have to pay out time and time again for the Pokemon cards... especially since if they lose theve got to give the cards to the winner...

Your Right Pokemon and Pog games probably warp children more, but kids eventually learn to avoid these crazes when they realise they dont have to pay out time and time again for that fun. They only have to pay out once for Pokemon Stadium! Theres less fights that way!

Although I do agree with you... :)

Dont you think that Pokemon, and the Poker inspired POG games have more affect on childrens acceptance of gambling? ...

I've never really been a big fan of either Casinos, Fruit Machines or betting... though because such games disinterest me, more than any moral standpoint...

But I do think that, even with its Goverment connections, the lottery is a business, is primarily profit making, and not solely in the national interest... ans as such the BBC shouldnt be showing the program.

Were it for any other product, I doubt the BBC would be able to have such a programme?

Glad you agree! Dont get me wrong I dont mind if people gamble, its not my money theyre throwing away!

But the BBC have a responsibility to maintain high Moral Standards(unlike Channel 5), therefore putting The National lottery on the BBC sends out the wrong signal to children. That is that gambling is morally aceptable, too many peoples lives have been ruined through gambling therefore the BBC should not broadcast the National Lottery!

But seriously do you the BBC should show the National

Should the BBC show the NAtional Lottery... no... not really... Given the BBC's nature, it goes against its non-commercial image.
