Sales of the Gamecube in both Japan and the US have flown through the roof: (Source C-Europe)

'Nintendo has sold a whopping amount of Zelda games for the GameCube!

In just a few days Nintendo sold a total of 407.700 copies of Zelda, which is an amazing accomplishment. Not only did Nintendo see a rise in software sales but also the hardware sales are going throught the roof!

Check out the Media Create charts of the week ending the 15th of December (Japan):

1 - Game Boy advance 241,600 (2,821,400)
2 - PlayStation 2 115,200 (3,357,200)
3 - Gamecube 67,500 (1,052,300)
4 - Xbox 13,400 (296,200)
5 - Psone 2,800 (213,300)

1 - The Legend of Zelda : Kaze no Takuto 407,700
2 - World Soccer Winning Eleven 6 Final Edition 336,500
3 - Pokémon Sapphire 180,600 (1,014,500)
4 - Pokemon Ruby 180,200 (1,016,000) 5 - .Hack Vol.3 96,000
6 - Guilty Gear PS2 74,900
7 - Clock Tower 3 50,000
8 - Mario Party 4 48,500 (414,300)
9 - Rockman Exe 3 47,800 (120,800)
10 - Gallop Racer 6 Revolution 44,800'

With Pokemon in the chart as well, and that being the fastest selling game of all time, I trully and firmly believe that worldwide, 2003 will be the year of the cube.

If its not, just look at the sales of the GBA and Cube placed together. Nintendo are some phat cats.

It can't be. Ps2 didn't sell over 3 million in one month.

Total sales of the current year.

No, the bracketed figures can't be the total sales for that region. Think about it - PS2, only 3,357,200 sales in Japan? That just doesn't make sense. I think that is worldwide sales.

By the way, does anyone have some recent US and Europe sales? Or total, worldwide sales?

All I have to say is, that the software should sell the console. By the looks of it, it is.

Yup it is.

This is intresting reading too, taken from ign.com

December 18, 2002 - Today Nintendo released first official sales numbers regarding a number of its holiday products. Everything is based largely on the sales spike that occurred during the November shopping season. Following is the bullet-point list that the company released, complete with plenty of comparisons to its competitors:
The November NPD report of sales data from American retailers shows that Nintendo GameCube jumped more than three full percentage points in next generation console share. Meanwhile, PlayStation 2 increased two percentage points ... all at the expense of Microsoft's Xbox ... which lost five points of the market.
Unit sales of Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox were dead even in November (468,000 units each) -- despite Microsoft giving away two free games with their hardware.
Nintendo GameCube also showed the biggest jump in software sales, climbing more than 150 percent over October totals compared to 97 percent for the Xbox and 48 percent for PlayStation 2.
With the entry of Metroid Prime, Nintendo GameCube is on track to have four new titles this year eclipse one half-million unit sales, while no new Xbox title has yet to reach that mark.
Both Metroid Prime for Nintendo GameCube (#2) and MetroidFusion for Game Boy Advance (#10) appeared among the top 10 sellers for all game sales in November.
With sell-through of 1.3 million units, Game Boy Advance was as popular in November as PlayStation 2. Game Boy represents 33 percent of the total hardware market.
Nintendo held 46 percent of the total hardware share for the month of November, an increase of 11 percent over October. Sony held 42 percent (-6 percent), while Microsoft held only 12 percent (-5 percent).

Nah, it won't happen. Simply because you'd need a whole new DVD 'drive'. The disc thing on the Cube (where you put the games) won't fit a full size disc in it, so they'd need to bring out some add on with a whole new disc reading laser and disc holder... which would probably knock the price up to about the same as a stand alone DVD player, and defeat the point of it being an 'add-on'.
